I could have sworn we had a GIRLS thread, but I've exhausted searches and given up.  Point me to one if I missed it. Anyway, the new season started on Sunday.  Some really enjoyable moments (spoilers below):

I liked the almost wordless "conversation" between Fran and Adam.  Also, I have been paying zero attention and given the ending of last season, I presumed Adam Driver was leaving the show.  Happy to have him back.

Ray's kindness in wading into the pond going after Dessie made me love him even more.

The makeup artist's obsession with Selena Gomez and Sophia Bush was funny.

Oh, and the way Lena directed the reveal of Marnie's awful, painted on makeup was ****ing hilarious.

I was howling when Shoash told Fran to leave and then Marnie piped up saying that he was totally welcome to stay.

I thought it was a great episode.

I also thought Adam would be leaving at the end of the last season... I'm surprised that all of these people are still friends.  Why is Ray invited to Marnie's wedding?  Will the show ever address those college friendships that just kinda... end... because they ran their course?

Here it is!

In case you want to keep all your thoughts in one place, for archival purposes. Scholars will be studying these threads in years to come, y'know!

I'm a little less enthused about Girls winding down and out this year compared to Downton Abbey, but the premiere definitely had its' moments. Mean girls become sweet so fast sometimes and good ol' Ray; what a guy. And again, it's great to see Andrew Rannells.

BTW, is the world really ready for Adam Driver? I know he has street cred but has he Kylo Ren'd out of normalcy? He was okay on SNL but his quirkiness is...there. I like him and he can act with a good script; an episode a few years back when he trashed his apartment over losing Hannah and then ran through the streets and subway half naked to reach her was very very moving. I hope he stays grounded.

I have always like the show because it reflects the me generation and is freshly written. But I would be dishonest if I did not say that the reflection can be annoying at times.

Steve, actually Girls was renewed last year for two seasons, so 2017 will be its final year (though with the low premier numbers maybe HBO regrets that--then again what other 30 minute comedy do they have right now?  Togetherness?  Blech :P )

I have increasingly a love/hate thing for this show, but I admit I really enjoyed the episode and the time jump (I didn't expect it as I remember reading that they filmed some scenes in Japan?)  I like Fran being part of the cast--I had completely forgotten that last year ended with that odd time jump to him and Hannah walking hand in hand (Jake Lacy was great in his pretty thankless role in Carol as well).  And yeah the makeup stuff was genuinely hysterical.

Is this the new "therapist" Jessa?  Cuz I don't buy it.  Does Desi only have one friend?  Cuz I do buy that... (though he seemed way to sane--underwear meditating and all, to be his friend).  Gcal's point is pretty fair--at this point I wonder if they would all still be friends, although it makes sense to be close for a wedding (last year I honestly didn't even get why they would socialize with Jessa since for much of the season she seemed to just show up to insult the others--not that they didn't deserve it.)

Thanks again Eric; you keep me on my toes! Btw, I'm still disappointed that both Looking and Getting On are both gone now. I don't know when the Looking movie will appear w Groff in the big H...HBO needs to bone up on the next big thing!

The rumour is it will air in April.  Director/co-writer Haigh tweeted that they were doing the final edit.

Anybody still watching this? The series finale is next week. This is one of the last shows in my roster that I've been watching from the very beginning week to week (as opposed to binge-watching or picking up several seasons in) so I'm feeling slightly nostalgic as it all comes to an end.

The writing of the finale surprised me for it was not what I was expecting. But in the end it all made sense.
