Hi all. I know Matilda's rush policy is moderately new as they stuck to a lotto for the first year or so. Has anyone tried it lately? Any luck closer to curtain?

They have both a rush and on-line lottery now. I have won the on-line lottery recently but have not tried the rush. I have seen others by rush tickets first thing in the morning or later in the afternoon = I guess availability depends on the day.

I believe it's $27 for the rush, and $32 for the lottery.

I've won the online lotto twice. Once I was full view orchestra house left about midway back. Second time, I was second row partial view orchestra house right.

I have tried getting rush a few times an hour or 2 before curtain in January, and they told me they only sold rush in the mornings.

Looks like I am not as lucky as other people I have actually never won the online lottery but I did rush three times. I've sat in row L partial view one time, row h partial view, and standing room (during the holidays they ran out of rush tickets really early in the line). In November I sat in row l and got there around 40 minutes before the box office opened and I got a decent spot in line. For the holidays I tried getting there an hour and a half before the box office opened and there were at least 25 people in front of me maybe more but that was a one show day. The third time it was a Two show Sunday and the website is wrong when it's a two show Sunday the box office opens at 10 not 12. I got there 5 minutes before the box office actually opened thinking I'd be waiting there for two hours and I was able to get row h. There were exactly 10 people in front of me but a handful of people got tickets for the evening performance. It really just depends what day every single time I rushed it was a Sunday (two of those happened only to be a one show Sunday) but it really just depends on what day. What I normally do is try both the lottery and rush just in case. I hope this helped let me know if you have any other questions I didn't mention!

As a rule, the online lottery seats are pretty much where the regular lottery seats were..mostly sides of the orchestra - usually close up to middle -all noted as partial view but they are just barely "partial." You'll also get occasionally seating further back or on a particularly quiet day, you might get a really excellent seat orchestra seat, not partial view at all.

Rush tickets can be anywhere in the theater - and are frequently where the lottery seats might be, but can also be found in the mezz, balcony, not always together.

Since the lottery seats are slightly more expensive, they are often better than rush seats.

How early should I show up?

Every time I do it I normally get there around 2 and a half or 2 hours before the box office opens. Some times I went an hour early, or even five minutes (in the winter) and got tickets. However, the summer is harder to get tickets. Last week on a two show Wednesday I got there an hourish before, and by the time I was up they sold out of tickets for both the matinee and evening. That never happened to me, but after that experience I'll stick with going 2 hours and a half-2 hours early.

Thanks for that info. Where are the seats usually? I know sometimes they're partial view. How obstructed is the view? Because we rushed Les Miz last night and we couldnt see about 40% of the stage.

Bump - has anyone tried Matilda rush lately? Mom will be visiting town in early Dec and while she isn't the best at understanding British accents (done by American children), as a huge Roald Dahl fan, I think she could enjoy the show for rush price.

Any recent reports appreciated! Thx

I rushed this past Friday, there was a 2 PM and an 8 PM show. They only had about 10 rush tickets for each show so only the first few people on line were able to buy them... I got there at 9:15 which was way too late.

There are some great Matilda discounts online right now, if you don't want to chance the rush.  I think as cheap as $59 or $69 dollars.  And it's worth every single penny.

I'm not sure if it was the weather but almost everyone showed up for rush around 10 am today (when the box office opened) and it wasn't a big crowd... less than 10 people. Also, one person camped out at The Color Purple at 10 (for a 12pm box office opening) and a bunch of people at The Great Comet so it's not like no one was trying to get rush tickets this morning because of the cold.

I rushed last week around 8:30, AM and there were about three people in front of me. We got side orchestra but the view wasn't that restricted. There was a pretty long line by 10 and I don't think that people at the end of the line got in.

Btw the box office told me today that they aren't doing like a real rush anymore. Today they just sold standing room to the people in line. Or they gave them $117 partial view. I definitely would still wait in line because the standing room is still worth it, and you never know they might sell you a rush ticket. But get there early maybe around 7:30/8 since the line got pretty lomg.

EDIT: I heard the box office tell that to several people in front of me, so I don't want to say that it's absolutely true. But they said it to several people asking if there was rush tickets for other days. I didn't ask since all I wanted was the standing room seat, so I'd still wait in line no matter what as I said because standing room is still great.
