Adams: "OK, OK, I’m only repeating what I’m hearing."

Phenomenal journalism.

I know that we love to criticize folks on the internet... but I don't think even Cindy Adam's would describe herself as a journalist.

Surely Carol is too old right? Though she did say she wanted to play Dolly every fifteen years.

She's like 95 years-old, right? There's no way. It's not physically possible.

The thing that scares me about the Cindy Adams article is, she actually has had a lot of correct Broadway scoops this year (from Audra'a pregnancy, to Frozen at the St James)... But I also greeted the Carol Channing story with a GREAT deal of skepticism

Also can she even remember it all? I LOVE Carol but I don't know if she can do this.

Cindy Adams also MISINTERPRETED Come From Away as Come Fly Away, and reported we were getting a revival of Come Fly Away, the Twyla Tharp show. So take everything with a grain of salt.

Not to mention, if Bette ends up having an alternate, they aren't going to cast someone who is more of an event in the role than her. Bette is a bigger star than Carol, of course, but we're she to do it the story of the revival wouldn't be Bette Midler, it'd be Carol Channing is back at 95.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I was thinking the same thing wizard!

I wouldn't at all be surprised if Bette would have an alternate for matinees on 2-show days, and I'm sure they would try to have someone with some name recognition at least in the theater community, it they wouldn't want someone who take press away from Bette... and put emphasize on the fact that Bette is only doing 6 out of 8 shows.

Cindy Adams is first and foremost a gossip columnist, but even so one would think she would take an objective look at what she is being fed and question it before submitting it for publication. It's just sloppy reporting - - - even for a gossip columnist.

The notion that 95 year old Carol Channing would even be considered to be Bette Midler's alternate for the "Hello Dolly" revival is preposterous.

Yes, the 95-year-old woman who can scarcely stand on her own anymore will be performing the leading role of a musical twice weekly. Thanks for breaking that news, Cindy.

I'll have what Cindy's having... On second thought, maybe not. I like some semblance of reality.

One must note that Adams did preface the news with "I don't believe it," but still I can only imagine she went ahead and "reported" (note the quotation marks) it just to get a write up about her column.

If that's the case it worked.

Nothing surprises me about Broadway anymore after the Hamilton hysteria. The producers will do anything, however over the top,to make a buck. Wonder what prices for this will be. Unless they get a real top notch replacement for 2 weekly performences each week, they will have to charge a kings ransom to pay Midler. Who will want to see it without Midler?

Anyone who's not a fan. Personally, I'd rather see it with the alternate. Assuming it's not Carol Channing.

They will roll her out in a wheelbarrow if it would make a buck.

I mostly lurk and pop up with occasional information, so I'm sure you all think I'm oh so reliable...lol

Can confirm from people close to the production: The alternate/standby is cast. It's not Carol Channing. And Bette will be doing 7 a week, the standby gets one matinee and will obviously cover in the event of Midler's absence.

Is it me or is it just irritating when someone "close to the production" (note the quotation marks) comes on here to claim they have information regarding some bit information relevant to the topic at hand and then promptly doesn't reveal the information?!?!

I saw this happen on another thread. I believe one of the countless "Hamilton" threads that have permeated these boards as of late. Some poster wrote that they were "in the know" about something and then - - - nothing.

Why even post anything at all?

It's so pointless.
