For those of us unlucky enough to be away from NYC during Lazarus' run, this is good news! The cast gathered on the day of Bowie's death to record the show and I, for one, couldn't be more grateful or excited to hear it!
Glad to hear this as well. The music was really wonderful.
I was actually just thinking about this today and figured it would most likely be happening. Since who knows if the show itself will have a future, why wouldn't they record an album that would feature new Bowie songs (that he now, unfortunately, will never record himself).
No matter what you thought of the show, I think anyone would have to agree that the music sounded fantastic. They recorded this TODAY? I'm sure it will have a strong energy...
I'm excited for this. I saw the show just before the holidays and I loved it. Michael C. Hall, Sophia Anne Caruso and Michael Esper were all outstanding. Loved the interpretations of the music and can't wait for this recording.

" On Monday, outside a Manhattan recording studio where the actors from “Lazarus” were scheduled to record the cast album, Mr. Hall said of Mr. Bowie, “He was a very private person — it wasn’t something he announced to any of us.”
“His passing certainly informs the experience of this recording session and will inform the experience of performing the show as we continue to do it,” Mr. Hall continued, adding that he was “in a state of awe” at Mr. Bowie’s closing run of releases. "
I also wonder if the show will pop up again soon somewhere. It's closing Jan. 20.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
It's such an interesting piece of theater that I would really like to see again. It's heavy. The cast is unreal. Amazing. I hope it has some sort of life outside of the NYTW.
It would make sense to transfer this (to the Longacre?) if the principals can possibly do it. It would never win for score (not eligible) or musical (too opaque) anyway, so why not in Hamilyear? There is so much demand and sudden interest.
I hope there will be a documentary about the show and that they covered the recording session. Sounds familiar to what happened with Rent. Of course, my greatest hope is that they film and release the whole show. Can't wait to add Lazarus to my Bowie collection.
I will say, though, that Sophia Anne Caruso made a social media post (that she deleted/edited soon thereafter) a couple weeks ago saying that she was making her Broadway debut this year. However a recent Playbill feature hints that maybe it is Little Dancer? Her quote on that: "Caruso: Little Dancer was an incredible experience. Being directed by five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman was absolutely amazing. There are many rumors about Little Dancer moving to Broadway, but my lips are sealed on details."
I don't think it's a Broadway show either, but it was already the hottest ticket this side of Hamilton for its entire run, and now interest has multiplied. I hope that doesn't sound cynical, but I do think demand would be initially very hot. Whether that could be sustained for a year with such a polarizing piece, I don't know.
I really hope this has a life after this run. When I saw it, to be honest, I couldn't make up my mind if I liked it. I LOVED the music and the performances but it was just so bizarre. (Which I expected but I didn't really know if it was for me. I'm not sure I opened myself up to give in to just how weird it would be.) I literally went back and told my mom "I liked the music, but I'm not sure exactly what I just saw and I haven't decided if I liked it or not." However that was the week before Christmas and I have been thinking about this show nearly every day since then. I'm not sure what it was but something about it was really thought provoking for me and I would love to see it again knowing ahead of time exactly what oddities were in store. I'm so glad they're making an album.
It's so sweet and just seems so right that the show should travel back to Bowie's home country. I'm glad more people will get to see it, just wondering if there's a London equivalent to NYTW?

I had a nearly identical reaction. Though the show left me scratching my head at times, I found the music and the voices singing it to be wonderful. I'm happy we'll have recordings of MCH singing Lazarus and Cristin Miliotti doing Changes.
i can't see this at Menier. I suggested Almeida because they did American Psycho and everything I've seen of that kind of reminds me of Lazarus (small box set, lots of projections etc)
Anyone heard any updates on this? It's been like 5 months and I the only thing I see when I google it are the articles from January about it being recorded.
