Hi everyone,

I visited NYC and saw my first broadway show around 4 or so years ago and I have been hooked ever since. Of the ones I have seen my favorite so far is Once ( followed by Hedwig).

I will visiting NYC and was hoping to catch a musical on Monday Dec 28 and maybe another one the next day since there seems to be matinees on Tuesday of that week.

the other times when I visited I was able to buy tickets in advance using the discount codes available  on the net however I suppose due to the holiday season there isn't any discount available for any shows.

i have heard/seen the TKTS booth but have never tried it due to limited time while traveling but with the shows being mostly full price I might try TKTS.

So I wanted to ask if anyone would know how availabilities at the booth usually are during the holiday season. Around what time should I line up and usually how long is the wait?

I am looking to see Fun Home and/or Finding Neverland ( would have loved to see Hamilton and would have paid full price to see it but sadly there are only resale tickets that super expensive)

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I don't think I would expect Fun Home to be on TKTS that week.

As for going to TKTS, if you are up for it, I very much recommend going to the South Street Seaport location, where the wait will be MUCH shorter, and also they sell matinee tickets the day before, so you could get them on Monday as well.

You could try the Spring Awakening lottery (around noon). Good odds plus losers get a discount.

My TKTS experience is that South Street Seaport typically opens at 11:00 AM, so I try to get there before it opens or close to opening, and the line goes pretty fast, but I have not gone during the busy holiday season. I was there on 12/5 before it opened and it was quite a long line, took us a good 45-50 minutes to get to the front of the line.  For shows, check what is showing on Mondays because a number of shows go dark and there is less of a choice for regular ticket buyers, too.  If there is a matinee on Tuesday, then South Street Seaport would have them for sale on Monday if they have any inventory.  I haven't tried the Times Square location in recent years.  Good luck!

Because of the holiday, many shows DO have a Monday performance.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Thanks everyone for the help!

i think i will try and go the booth at south street seaport as suggested. I am scared to get to the theatre late so I will be opt to show up at the booth when they open rather than close to show time.

I went a couple of weekends ago and I got tickets several weeks in advance and I already had my ticket with me so my suggestion is maybe getting them ahead of time so that way you already have them the day of. Just a suggestion.

Hi everyone, another question..i am thinking of visiting Brooklyn in the morning. I see that there is a tkts booth there too that opens at 11. Do you know if they sell evening tickets when they open or it is only matinees?

Also, are tickets availability the same across the 3 booths?

If you have a smartphone, just download the free TKTS app. That will show you what's available at all three booths in real time. You will also be able to see operating hours, etc. You still need to go to one of the booths to purchase though. Enjoy your stay in New York!

What show did you finally choose?

Ended up seeing finding neverland, as the discount was better and I was thinking I could catch Matthew Morrison before he leaves.

Sadly I couldn't fit in a second show. Until next time I guess.

thanks everyone that helped answer my questions!!

I saw it on 12/19 and enjoyed it, Mr. Morrison is very good. Loved the end of Act One (Stronger).

Yes I agree Stronger was definitely a highlight..i also really liked the reprise to Neverland. Matthew. Morrison was very good so was many of the cast, didn't get to see Terrence Mann but Paul Slade Smith was on instead and he was pretty good.

The show had some flaws, but it was still pretty good. I am sad it got all these negative reviews. It was a very fun night at the theatre.
