I am auditioning in February and I need help finding the perfect songs! I can sing mezzo-soprano or soprano. I can also belt. Please help!

I think strangers who have never met you and have never heard you sing will excel at finding you the perfect songs!  You are gonna kill it at college!

Sing something that best fits your voice yet isn't overdone. I sang Before the summer ends from Dracula and Larger than Life from My Favorite Year.  It went over very well and my college auditions were a great experience overall. Don't over think it.

Here's a few hints:

Unless they're the only songs you feel confident about, don't sing songs from Phantom, Wicked, or Les Mis.  They're over done and faculty panels are bored stiff by them.

If you have a voice teacher or vocal coach, this is where they can help you out.  They can help you find the song that you sing best in a healthy way.

@bryaladew3 With all due respect, you need to rely on your own judgment or that of a voice teacher to help you out. We can suggest songs, but like they said we don't know how you sound or if these songs are in your best voice. A college audition is for you to showcase yourself at the best of your ability for scholarship opportunities and only you or someone who knows your voice better can do that. :)

Yes to all of the above comments, but my only suggestion is to find something contemporary if allowed. Look through Ryan Scott Oliver, Kerrigan & Lowdermilk, Carner & Gregor, and Jonathan Reid Gealt. 98% positive you aren't going to find a song they haven't heard before so find something that is fun and makes you sound great.

You Can Always Count On Me from City of Angels is in your range, has some belt moments, allows for great character acting moments, is funny and up-tempo. It would be a good contrast to a dramatic slow ballad if you need to do more then one song. It is however meant for an older character, i.e. Late 20's to late 30's. But I only say that because I am assuming you are a young college age.

This is so broad. You can't honestly expect meaningful help from a) an online discussion board of strangers, and b) an online discussion board of strangers who have been given the most generic request ever...

I've just finished studying MT at college and believe me - they will ram individuality down your throat. So be original - don't ask a group of strangers for their opinion.

Listen to musicals that never made it to Broadway (flops, out of town tryouts, Off-Broadway, West End). You need to massively expand your musical horizons if you're going to study this so read books on the History of Musical Theatre, they'll tell you stories of musicals and if you like the plot of them you should listen to them and pull a song from it to add to your repertoire.

I know it sounds like a hell of a lot of work for just ONE song but this song could change your life. Everyone wants to be on the course you're auditioning for so really dig deep until you find a song that is absolutely perfect for you.
