A soul song for a white girl?

I'm currently in school for MT and in my Musical Scene Study class our teacher is giving us a free pass where we get to pick the song, but it has to be a role that you can be cast in now/one day. Now for fun on the side I like to sing soul/r&b (I'm in a gospel choir etc.) and I would like to present a song in that style for my free song since my class hasn't heard me sing in that style and I love it. The only catch is, well, I'm white. So does anyone know of show/song that is in that genre that is played buy a white girl? (Movie musicals that haven't been adapted for stage is fine)
