There actually have been threads, usually devolving into high-and-mighty posters degrading us all for calling any show a guilty pleasure. Although it seems more like you're defining it as more of a show you think is underrated.

SUNSET BOULEVARD is a big one for me under your definition. So many people seem to despise it but it's one of my favorite ALW works. Many of the terrible stage-to-screen adaptations are also guilty pleasures for me, such as A Little Night Music.

CATS is still to this day one of my favorite musicals, and no one can convince me differently.

I know everyone hates it, but I've listened to it a thousand times and my guilty pleasure is [popular, well-liked musical that has had multiple major and highly-acclaimed productions]

edit: I will admit to knowing Seussical by heart, which arguably isn't music for mixed company. In my head, shower, or car, however...

Yeah, you know, you'd think that people would understand why CATS is so popular around the world, yet everyone likes to act like it's some floppy piece of trash that has no artistic merit whatsoever.

did you manage to catch the LA revival (the one with Jonah Platt)?

The thing is, besides being an utter toad of a human being, Riedel usually has the least knowledge of the topic in the room. He doesn't usually understand the content or approach of a show, and is always completely and unfailingly socially ignorant, which makes it really infuriating when Susan can't get a word in edgewise. A definitive mansplainer; it's always painful when he has female guests. I watch the show sporadically when I really want to see a guest, because it's the only theatre talkshow we have, but it would be so much better without this hateful clown in a dadcoat. Mine is Mamma Mia. It was the first musical I've ever seen and although many trashed it I enjoyed it for what it was - a fun, entertaining and joyful 2 hours. I didn't know the concept of musical before this and it basically got me into the theatre.

Does the Blacklick Valley Les Mis count? I watch that thing almost every day.

I appoligise for any spelling mistakes. I may be on my mobile. Clumsy fingers and small little touchscreen keys don't mixx. I try to spellcheck, but I may miss something.

c0113g3b0y YES! I saw the Bare revival 3 times. I even got the poster signed by the whole cast. I was/am obsessed. More than because I was just learning to love myself. The 2007 Studio Cast recording is literally the whole show. I hear it almost every day. The music is in my heart.

Little Women.  I was first introduced to it when my daughter was cast as Jo in a community theater production a few years ago.  I assumed that my enjoyment of it at that time was due to obvious bias, but I later listened to the OBC CD that was distributed to the cast and really liked it.  Then I learned that the show was a huge flop on Broadway, although appears to be plugging along just fine on the community and high school theater circuit.  The show clearly has flaws (my wife thought it was too long and dragged badly), but it seemed to me that the problem was it simply lacked the scale to warrant being on Broadway in the first place.

CATS.  In London 2 weeks apart in 1982 saw it twice. Eventually saw it in Toronto,  and L.A.

it came to N.Y.  The only place I loved it was in London and saw it again.  The staging in London was so superior,  love love Cats. Most people who didn't see it in London did not love it

I don't feel guilty for liking anything.

If other people don't like something who cares? I'm not looking for anyone's approval. I enjoy what I enjoy and that's all there is to it.

On Blacklick Valley, I am embarrassed at myself for liking it, so no one is influencing me in that. But as for other people, it may be the horrible attitudes on this board pressuring them to like things that makes them feel guilty of enjoying certain things.
