A BFA in Stage Management would be fine, but I would keep in mind a couple different things. First, you should consider double majoring perhaps (or minoring) in directing if you can. Make sure to spread yourself out a little bit so you can have a well-rounded experience. Part of being a stage manager is understanding how the different parts of a theatre come together & knowing how each of the departments work in a professional setting. Plus, it makes you more versatile! Also, look at who the professors are at your university and what kind of professional work they are doing for the stage. Many of your "ins" and opportunities for a successful career will come from your professors. All in all, your education is what you make of it. If you work hard, take chances and stay optimistic, your stage management career will be wonderful. Best of luck!
