"Five-time Emmy Award nominee Jesse Tyler Ferguson, the "Modern Family" star last seen on Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, will return to The Great White Way in April 2016 playing more than 40 outrageous characters in Becky Mode's Fully Committed.
Directed by Jason Moore, previews will begin April 2, 2016, prior to an official opening April 25 at the Lyceum Theatre. The limited engagement will continue through July 24.
Ferguson will play a harried reservations clerk at an in-demand eatery, a series of guests clamoring for a table and more."

There could be a conflict since he has a TV show on ABC, but does anyone think Jesse Tyler Ferguson could host next year's Tony Awards?

I feel like he'd try (or least his writers would) to be similar to NPH on the Tonys.

This is only Ferguson's first Broadway show since making a name for himself in Hollywood, so we'll if this ends up being the right vehicle for him.

It's a funny show. The reservation clerk is very Mitchell from Modern Family, but the dozens of other characters will give Ferguson the chance to show off his comedic chops, which we know are there.

I don't think he's that kind of star yet. I mean if Clive Owen and Kiera Knightly can't make themselves a "hot ticket" then I don't see this doing so hot. But who knows. I mean a single set, one person show can't be too expensive to run anyway.

I don't think the concern is about his filming, but rather the Tonys are on a competing network. I don't know that there are those kind of restrictions on actors anymore. (But I really don't know.)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

I enjoyed this at the Vineyard years ago, but I do think that the Lyceum is way too big a theater for this show.

So based on its history, this seems like another "revival by the Classics rule" show, right?
If so, we should prepare ourselves for yet another round of "Why is it a revival if it's never been on Broadway?" questions in various threads.

Jeffrey, stop acting like you know more than I do. He has been doing Shakespeare in the Park all along, and people weren't exactly beating down the door to get in. This may be his "first Broadway show" since MF, but Modern Family is no longer in its heyday. And by no means is he the biggest star from it. I would also guess that he is the LEAST known main Modern Family cast member.

Oh for crying out loud. It's a three-month run. Mark Setlock toured the original production around the US where it played much bigger houses than the Vineyard. Granted, audiences all around the country knew him for his beloved turn as an Angel understudy in RENT, which had a much wider reach than Modern family in its non-heyday, right?

"I am My Own Wife" played the Lyceum, so I don't think it's "too big" for "Fully Committed."

In all fairness, a lot of Broadway people didn't know How I Met Your Mother, or watch it, or like it, but Neil still did well on Broadway. Neil wasn't any more famous than Jesse.

NPH was a child star, had been on Broadway before, has Hosted the Tonys several times and has become something of a pop culture icon. He is definitely more famous than Jesse.

"Doogie" had is own hit show when he was a kid( nostalgia demographic) then laid low and came back as a psycho version of NPH in the Harold and Kumar films , (gave him the "dude"slacker/stoner demographic ) Did the West Coast concert version of Sweeney ( Broadway demographic) and then got Barney on HIMYM. So he kept building his recognition all the time.

NPH is fair more famous than Ferguson. I don't think anyone in my family would know his name if I said it.
Like someone said it's only a 3 month run, but I can't see this becoming a must see or anything.

How I Met Your Mother is responsible for NPH's career resurgence. Yes, he had success before then, but Barney Stinson is what made him a household name. How I Met Your Mother was on CBS for 9 years and was watched by millions of people. Jesse Tyler Ferguson doesn't have the same kind of name recognition as Neil, but few do.
