Hi, I'm working on entering a competition held in California. I'm entering the costume design category, and just need some information on a show I'm considering to enter.

So, I'm not competently sure how licensing a new show works. I'm looking at Chicago, and from I read (on Wikipedia obviously) it's original title in 1975 for the musical adaptation was "Chicago: A Musical Vaudeville" and then it was revived in 1996 and is till running today under the came "Chicago: The Musical" Even though all of us just call the show "Chicago" I would like to peruse a copy of the original; "Chicago: A Musical Vaudeville" rather than the revival; "Chicago: The Musical"

(If you want to know why I'll tell you, but I'm meaning to write a big thing here.)

On Samuel French's website, you can of course license the show, but in the Reviews section, you can see that someone says "This CHICAGO is not the 1975 original.  It is an updated edition based on the 1996 Broadway revival." And continues on. It also says in it's information on the website that the Script adaptation was done by David Thompson, who on Wikipedia is said to have edited the 1996 revival still performing today now called "Chicago: The Musical"

So from the looks of it, you can license "Chicago: The Musical" (which I find odd because it's still performing, can someone explain this?).

My real question is this: Is it possible to license "Chicago: A Musical Vaudeville"?
