I woud love to see him in this role but I feel like that would be playing it safe. If the rumors aren't true I hope they cast someone we wouldn't expect at all

I absolutely love Allan. I'm trying to imagine him as Hedwig, but I wonder - does he have a certain air of sophistication and cunning (pun not intended) about him that would't work?
Of course he can sing, dance and act the part. Please, he's the consummate entertainer! I just have a hard time believing he'd be that character.
I posted this in the Darren thread in response to someone else but it seems more appropriate in this thread since it really has nothing to do with Darren so I'm copying and pasting. (Hope that isn't breaking some unwritten rule of BWW etiquette...)
It was responding to a video I'll have to post separately because I'm on the app and it's being wonky.
He's great in that medley. I've only seen him in cabaret, but I have a hard time imagining him doing the harder rock numbers? Does he have that side to his voice? I mean, ultimately I don't care. As an actor he's f-ing brilliant and I will book yet another trip to the Belasco if he signs on. I'm just curious if his Hedwig might be different vocally?
I booked a front row seat to Cabaret just for him and I would be ecstatic to see this regardless of the style he might bring.
it should happen. I could see his run being from Oct. 14 - Jan. 3(12 weeks).
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Does anyone think JCM would come back to close the run, in its first official Broadway carnation? Injury or not, and even if for a week, I feel like that would just be how they'd do it.
I would love JCM to come back!! I only saw the show with Neil, and I wanted to see it with JCM, but passed as i had other shows i wanted to see when i was on spring break
It's really hard for me to see the show without JCM. He's my first Hedwig and he created the role. He is really the only hedwig for me. That said, I love love love Alan Cumming and I think I'd make a trip to Manhattan to see him.
This seems like a lot of speculation to right now. They could pick someone out of left field. AC is popular with theater people, but is he a draw for muggles? I honesty don't know. I don't watch that TV show.
Well, he came back downtown at or toward the end. I saw his first return performance. I remember him screwing something up and saying "it has been a long time for Hedwig." I wouldn't surprise me at all. But I also think (and have heard) that they have another arrow in their quiver.
I don't know about Broadway but I have heard rumblings Cumming was or is the leading candidate to bring this production of HEDWIG to the West End next year, contingent on what happens with THE GOOD WIFE (there's been speculation this could be the final season.) I imagine that would be infinitely more appetizing to him than closing the show here in New York.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I had that as well and friends shot it down as nonsense. I'd love love love to see how Cumming would portray Hedwig, so I wouldn't shed a tear if he did a run in New York before the West End.
