The Volunteer Theatre Actors' Association (VTAA) is a non-profit organization developed with community theaters on Long Island to support community theater actors and staff. Our website is www.volunteertheatre.org

Benefits to actors include discounts with established companies to offset the costs of auditions, invitations to participate in webinars and exclusive events, access to advocacy services, as well as the opportunity to receive mini-grants to fund continuing arts education. Most importantly, the VTAA provides a list of recommended well-being and safety guidelines for working with community theater actors. Theaters also benefit by receiving of in-kind donations, assistance with the promotion of upcoming shows and auditions, as well as the opportunity to receive mini-grants to cover production costs.

Lisa Bertrand, Founder of the VTAA, describes the organization as " being similar to "Actors Equity" but for community theater actors and staff and without the hefty dues. We aim to provide the same benefits to our members that Equity does for Broadway performers."

According to Bob O'Neill, Executive Artistic Director of East Islip's BroadHollow Theatre Company, "For over 40 years, the BroadHollow Theatre Company has been committed to supporting local actors by providing them with an environment they can all be proud of in which to showcase their gifts and talents. Through our partnership with the VTAA, we will continue our commitment to our performers for many years to come."

It is only a one time tax deductible donation of $9 to become a theater partner or member - there are no other donations/costs required.
