Any thoughts on casting for the show and who'd join Laura Benanti and Josh Radnor?
Roundabout's 2011 benefit concert of the show featured this cast: Gavin Creel as “Steven Kodaly”, Jane Krakowski as “Ilona Ritter”, Kelli O’Hara as “Amalia Balas”, Josh Radnor as “Georg”, Peter Bartlett as “Headwaiter”, Michael McGrath as “Ladislav Sipos”, Rory O’Malley as “Arpad Laszlo” and Victor Garber as “Mr. Maraczek”.
Also, I couldn't find the thread announcing Laura/Josh, but thoughts on that casting? I don't know the show too well but I hope I get to see this!
I wish I could have seen that concert, that cast is terrific. I know Jane is filming Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, but I think she'd be dynamite in this revival as Ilona. The show shoots in NYC, so it could work logistically.
I still don't know if Josh Radnor can sing, but Laura is basically perfect for the character.
Get to know the show, it's a fantastic show with a wonderful score and the original recording starring Barbara Cook is one of my all-time favorites.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
There's a whole Tumblr page devoted to the show and they have a few audio clips from the Roundabout concert; including Kelli singing "Vanilla Ice Cream", Jane (I'm not sure what she sang), and Josh singing "She Loves Me." I think by the time the revival begins rehearsal, they would have finished filming the second season of Kimmy -- I assume, then the second season would be on Netflix early in January/February.
Oh, you're right, I forget that She Loves Me still isn't coming for several more months. I assume Jane would be singing "A Trip to the Library" in the video you mentioned; it's the character's big solo.

I was thinking about how perfect Gavin seems for Kodaly as well. This revival is making me pretty excited, I hope I can make it out to see it next year.

Would love to see Christina Hendricks as Ilona. She'd be brilliant and a huge coup for the production.
Radnor was great in the concert!
OH, missed the link above. Jane and Gavin reprising their Ilona and Kodaly from the concert - fantastic! And Peter Bartlett, who was astonishingly funny as the Headwaiter! This is all great!
This just got real. I expect this will be a smash. So many people involved were in the benefit concert, which was EXCELLENT. The only cast member they haven't announced is the person who will be playing Ladislav. Michael McGrath was excellent in the concert, and given his connection with Scott Ellis from On The Twentieth, I wouldn't be surprised if he signed on as well. But he also may have something else in the works (Honeymooners, etc.).
All I can really say is that I cannot be more excited for this production.
Seeing Hamilton is one thing and I am excited to see the fuss behind it, but for me personally, this revival has become thing I am most excited about seeing this season!
Such a great cast and now that they have Jane Krakowski coming in....I am beyond ecstatic!!
She Loves Me is the closest thing out there to being "the perfect musical" in my eyes.
Benanti and Krakowski back together after NINE. Genius casting. Benanti alone got me excited beyond belief but Krakowski, who's one of the great comediennes of her generation, just made this the must-see event of the season for me. Oh and Creel is just a delight.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Great news! Krakowski is ideal casting for Ilona. I'm sure Creel will be great but I would've enjoyed Douglas Sills as Kodaly. Yea, he's older than Cassidy was when he originated the role but Krakowski is also older than Baxley was.
