MSU Fall Auditioning Intensive!#1

Here’s to a long, relaxing, well-earned summer break and look forward to working with you in the fall. Here are some updates regarding Montclair State University’s programs for theatre teachers and students in 2015-2016:

The 8th Annual Theatre Night Awards will take place on May 24, 2016! We’re trying to avoid AP tests and hope we don’t create too many other conflicts!

We have a brand-new program for your theatre students, those who are college bound, college ambivalent and just those with stars in their eyes!

The Audition Intensive: A Workshop for High School Seniors (and a few juniors, space permitting) preparing for BA, BFA and professional audition opportunities.

16-20 students will spend the week-end of Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 at MSU working with expert professional coaches. Students will walk away with a prepared monologue, suggestions for others, coaching on how to “act the song,” and plenty of practical audition tips and preparation strategies to boost confidence and nail those college auditions!  Parents and high school teachers are welcome to join us for a process-oriented presentation of audition monologues and songs on Sunday Oct. 25.

The fee for The Audition Intensive is $150. Interviews will be held at MSU on Saturday Sept. 12. Bring a photo! No audition required! If accepted, students will be emailed an appropriate  audition monologue chosen for them. They should be familiar with the monologue (no memorization required!) for the Oct. 24 workshop. Make sure you get an interview slot on Sat. Sept. 12!

The Audition Intensive will replace Theatre Day for Teachers in 2016. We hope to run Theatre Day for Teachers again in January 2017! However, teachers who send students to The Audition Intensive will receive free workshops at their schools in Viewpoints and a variety of Speech, Movement, and Acting techniques!

Contact Sarah Weber (webers@mail.montclair.edu) regarding the November 13 Theatre Day at MSU featuring a free matinee performance of Pride and Prejudice in Kasser Theatre and an array of morning workshops!

Thanks for helping us get the word out about our exciting 2015-2016 programs! Have students contact Susan Kerner with questions about or interest in The Audition Intensive!

Best,
