Just watched it a second time. It's a defining moment for this President, and for all of us. Unforgettable. (And worth noting on a second hearing: take note of the silences. The space between thoughts. The potency of that quiet. The President's utter confidence in his own stillness. Breathtaking.)

I did notice that while watching. I was laying down when it came on and by then end was on the edge of my couch in tears. I just had a full breakdown after it was over.
I love Obama, warts and all. Very proud of everything he has done, stood for, and achieved. This is a beautiful, powerful (and I hate that cliche) thing.
Reggie, your comment brought to my mind a verse in the New Testament - Romans 12:15 - "Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn." There are days, such as these, when those two extremes are simultaneously necessary.
I think it hit home so much because after about 10 minutes, he was not just the President but he was himself. He was speaking from the heart. that was about the point when I sat up on my couch. That point of silence before he started Amazing Grace had me holding my breath. I will say that for a few minutes it seemed to sway in the direction of a political speech but I realized that he was going to bring It back around. And he did, beautifully.
I actually thought he was going to break down during that silence. He seemed to be trying to keep it together and I wonder if Amazing Grace was even planned.
So proud that I am a citizen of the country he represents and that I voted for him. It might be the Chard*nnay from dinner talking, but gosh...
I wondered if it was planned, too, but I don't think so. It seems sort of spontaneous, since the accompaniment didn't come in right away-- who knows? Who cares! In any event, a really beautiful moment.
(For some reason, BWW censors the wine I had at dinner tonight. Uhhh...)
I agree, this is one for the History Books! I love how as he was leaving, the Ministers flocked to read the speech he left at the podium! I am sure that is going to be a valuable artifact fr the church.
