Puppetry for TV Film &Video - Level 1

This is a beginner level class. No previous puppetry experience is required.

Everyone who participates will be provided with “practice eyes” and a hand made, professional-style practice puppet that are theirs to keep!

Class size: 10-12 students
Instructor: Paul McGinnis (Sesame Street/Crank Yankers)

In this course we will be covering:
• Basic puppetry skills including stance, eye focus, mouth sync, walks, and rod manipulation.
• Working with scripts
• Improvised scenes
• Working with the monitor
• Working with human actors
• Character building
• Vocal Characterization

About Paul McGinnis:
Paul has been a puppeteer for Sesame Street since 2001. Other television and film credits include Crank Yankers, Warren the Ape, Crash & Bernstein, Felt, It’s a Big Big World, Dog With a Blog, The Book of Pooh, IFC’s Greg the Bunny, and The Muppets. He has puppeteered for the viral video hits Funny Or Die’s “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know” starring Jon Hamm and “the [title of show] show”. And his work can be seen in commercials for LivingSocial, Sony Bravia, and Go Daddy.

On stage, Paul puppeteered the Audrey II plants for the first national Broadway tour of Little Shop of Horrors, and manipulated the life-size dinosaur puppets for Walking With Dinosaurs: The Arena Spectacular.

He produces his own works of puppetry for screen and stage, and particularly enjoys creating dance-oriented, Bunraku-style puppet pieces.Paul grew up in Huntington Beach, California, and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
