Got my AMEX tickets this morning.  I am amazed she is selling as well as she is.  I went for the cheap tickets and now I wish I had spent a little more.  She really puts on a good show.  Anyone else going?

Good for her showing some love in the smaller venues in so many secondary market locations.  I liked her in the Jam/Lewis heyday but not a fan of lip-synching at shows.

She is coming to Orlando (their arena) which is two hours from me.  I almost bought a ticket but got a great Groupon deal for Culture Club, Howard Jones, Book of Love and Marc Almond, which is near the same area/same time as the Janet concert.  Chose that instead of the Janet concert.  I will still buy the new cd when it comes out.  Dame, you have to report back after your show.

Yeah, that would be my concern, too. I suppose you just know to expect it if you're going to a Janet or Britney concert, but 95% lip sync with the occasional live vocal flourish doesn't do it for me, either. I'm very interested in hearing the new album, though. As a recording artist, I think she's somewhat underappreciated as a vocalist. She's really the queen of that delicate under-singing, if you will, which can be much more challenging than singing "big". I haven't been paying attention, is she working with any of her old collaborators?

ETA: Sorry, Dame.  I hate it when someone posts something celebratory and then we all pile on with our "yeah, but..." qualifiers.  At the end of the day, she's a great entertainer and I'm sure she'll put on a very good show.  After this long wait, I imagine the crowds will be very enthusiastic, too.  Should be a really fun night.

When I saw her very last "Number 1's"  tour I did not get the impression that their was any lip-synching going on. But I might be wrong.  It was however,  a extreme dance heavy show and I was very impressed with her.

I'm only eh on the single.  It sounds like a castaway from the underrated VELVET ROPE.

That logo, however, is freakin' genius.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

I hope she adds some Tri-State area dates on her tour. I haven't missed a tour, I've been to each and every one. I haven't gotten the chance to listen to the single. I will later on.

Love me some Janet, the Janet and Velvet Rope albums are superb, however her tours always kinda seem the same. I will probably still see her though when she comes to the UK.

Is that considered a strong pop music single these days?  I get that she's no longer a teen or 20-something performer but that track lacks a certain umph.

If you told me that Janet was releasing a Jam/Lewis produced mid-tempo bedroom song, this is pretty much what I would expect. Nothing revolutionary here, but I do think Janet sounds fantastic and the subtle production is wonderfully seductive. And maybe that's the goal here. A quiet, seductive "hello" before she gives us the REAL first single closer to the album's release.

Remember with Damita Jo, the first single sounded nothing like the rest of the record?

I hope this is like that.

Yeah, I guess. Or it will be positioned as such if it doesn't make an impact. It really does feel more like an album track to me.

It was BET Awards weekend, so I dedicated some time to watching some live clips from Janet's tours from the early 90s to the late 2000s and, as much as I love her as a recording artist, I honestly feel a lot better about not being able to see her LA show. There were some commonalities running through most of her live performances - the kinda ugly, jerky, suburban-hip-hop-dance-class choreography (which was a LOT better in her early tours), the (often, painfully obvious) and nearly constant lip syncing - made even worse by her occasional grunt or call-out to the audience ("Woo!" "Sing it!" "Yeah!") in a rough, weathered voice that sounded absolutely nothing like the smooth vocals she was supposedly singing milliseconds before, pretty uninspired set designs and lighting and costumes that are rarely flattering or fashion forward.  Meh.

Still looking forward to the album, though.

I would love to see Janet on tour... It would be a dream come true. I've been a fan of her (and Michael) for as long as I can remember. Actually, thinking of it, my earliest music-related memories are all linked to them. It's funny how I used to think of them as some sort of superheros LOL... I used to watch Michael and Janet's VHS tapes (my favorites were the Dangerous short films and the Rhythm Nation videos collection) religiously growing up and I've been a fan ever since.  They were a big part of why music became such an important thing to me.

I'm sure her abilities as a performer are not what they once were, but still, I would most definitely go see her live if I had the opportunity.

I had a similar experience being a child of the 80s/90s, Kadu.  It's kind of hard to overstate how big Janet was during the Rhythm Nation period.  Such a crazy long album campaign from the fall of 1989 with "Miss You Much" to early 1991 with the still popular "Love Will Never Do".

^^^^^^

I was born in 88 so (unfortunately) I don't have memories of how big that era was... only later, when I was around 5 or 6yo, I started paying attention to her and Michael through their video work. I remember how mesmerized I was as young kid and that fascination made me start following their careers as I grew older. I remember when Michael came to Brazil for concerts and later to record a music video in the mid-90s... it was pure madness over here. I don't ever recall Janet visiting my country for concerts or even promo. I think that hurt her popularity over here.

I'll catch Janet in Atlanta at Chastain Park in September. Saw her last concert in Atlanta just a couple of days before 9/11. She put one a spectacular, dance heavy show then.

She added a show to my city for next year.  Second to the last concert of the tour.  I scored a 12th row center.  Price was only a third of what  my Madonna ticket was.
