Hamilton ticket prices-seriously?

Producers do not think about the possibility of an economic downturn This could happen and they are than screwed. Right now, tourists from Europe do not have the luxury of a monetary advantage as the dollar & euro are about the same. There might be lesser tourists from Europe this year which will affect them.

It is sort of like Wall Street with them as they think the party will go on forever. Parties end eventually but I do not think they are even thinking of that possibility.

Premium pricing has been around since 2001.  Do you honestly believe there has been no economic downturn since then?  Or is it another kind of economic downturn you're talking about?  Does it involve the Amero and Christine Ebersole?  I'm still waiting for that to happen.  I stored jugs of my own urine and everything.  Well, they're left over from Y2K, but I'm sure they're still good.

I sat in (I think) row V for If/Then, which was in the same theater. (I know it was behind Q because I already had my tickets for Hamilton and knew I'd be up a few rows.). I do not recall any significant obstructions. And that show had quite a bit of action above the stage whereas at least at the staging from the public, I don't recall much in Hamilton. Of course, who knows how they'll restage it. At any rate I was perfectly happy in V. (With the seats... The show not so much...)

I'm glad to read this, because I'm also going to be in Row Q. At the Public, there was a little bit of action on the second level of the stage, but not much that is crucial, as far as I can remember. I'm just hoping the sound is good.  For this show, you need to be able to make out all the words.

Yeah I agree. I sat 5th row center at the public (making the hours in the cancellation line well worth it). Not sure seeing it in any seat at the Richard Rodgers can top that, although I'm sure I'll still enjoy it. Leslie Odom Jr. Made eye contact with me during "wait for it" and I felt like his eyes were piercing into my soul. OK now I'm getting too excited to see this again!

I loved the show at the Newman, too, and managed to see it twice, once from Row F and once from G. Incredible. I am a bit nervous that the show will lose that intimacy at the Rodgers, but it's all we have! I am really looking forward to seeing it again! As soon as the next block of tickets are released, I'm going to try to elbow away the scalpers and get tickets for my birthday in May 2016.

Just out of curiosity --  were you able to get those tix for your birthday?

Just hard to believe a year ago people were already complaining of $327 premium ticket pricing as too pricey (and yes I think that price is expensive) yet now Hamilton has priced premium tix to $849 and it's still selling out.

Kudos! Ah ok. I can't afford premium tix or any tix over $200 (ok ok maybe I can afford it but I choose not to put it on the budget... unless I win the megamillion lottery?) I haven't checked but I just presumed all those $849 tix were sold out by now.

I tend to think I'm pretty normal and I can afford those tickets. I choose not to get them though since no show is worth it. I don't even think it's worth the $199 they are getting for regular priced tickets. I certainly wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth or privileged. I work hard and have a very good paying job.

Define a normal crowd of people? When I go to the theatre there are people of all races. Heck I know plenty of Latinos, Asians, African American...etc that have a hell of a lot more money than me.

 

I can't comment on the gender gap pay because where I work we all make the same no matter whether we are male, female, transgender, gay, lesbian, queer, black, brown, white, yellow, red...etc.

Don't worry, it is an uncontroversial point and likely true, given the median income of black people is 57% that of white people (or was in 2012). People of colour are more likely to be excluded from the premium section than white people, which is a bit sad/ironic given the show.

given how Hamilton is the 'it' show at the moment, I bet NYC corporate events departments of banks, consulting firms, etc. bought the premium tix to entertain their clients.

For sure! And actually there are still $850 tickets available for purchase at Ticketmater, at least the ones you need an Amex card to purchase.

Ironically, Hamiltonian’s inclusivity is so attractive that it’s made the show exclusive. The very audience meant to see the show is once again limited by the price point as tickets have skyrocketed to $500 in some cases. There’s a price to pay for being the biggest hit on Broadway, and apparently it’s half your monthly rent.

While this isn’t the fault of “Hamilton”’s producers, who are simply offering tickets at the price people are willing to pay, it does complicate the show’s sense of cultural and class diversity. Miranda has battled against this problem by offering free sidewalk mini-performances before Wednesday and Saturday shows.
