Hi - So I'm auditioning for Wednesday Addams at my local community theatre--and Wednesday is my dream part and always will be. I have her look, her acting style is second nature to me, and her songs are right in my range. The only problem is I haven't found the right audition song.
I'm a mezzo soprano mix/belter (Wednesday's style) so I need a song that shows off high mixing and belting. I think Wednesday only belts up to a B but I can go comfortably up to a D at least)
So I'm looking for a contemporary, up-tempo, comedic, dark, mezzo mix/belt song. It's pretty picky, so far I can only think of I Want More -and I just think that's too much of a little girl's song and it's overdone if you've ever been to an Addams Family audition. Oh also, Next to Normal is REALLY overdone at Addams Family auditions. If I can I'd like to find something that's somewhat of a hidden gem.
Let me know if you know of any songs that work great as a Wednesday audition.
"So I'm looking for a contemporary, up-tempo, comedic, dark, mezzo mix/belt song."
Maybe "What the F*ck?" from If/Then? It is certain contemporary, up-tempo, comedic, and dark. I don't know how high the belting is, though - it might not be high enough to show off the vocal range that you want to display.
"Always Starting Over" from If/Then would give you contemporary, up-tempo, dark (sort of, with its coming-out-of-the-darkness theme), and mezzo belting galore, but is not comedic.
Don't bother with the student board....it's a no man's land there.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
