So basically, bring back the show that flopped on Broadway in less than a year back that same year.

You do realize it closed because of low-ticket sales and poor reviews, right?  Producers never choose to close their shows after a month when they haven't recouped...

I believe a correction is in order. If I remember correctly, Honeymoon got generally favorable reviews including a rave from Brantley. Truth be told, my wife and I enjoyed it much more than either AAIP or Fun Home

The nominees are what they are whether we agree with them or not. We would like either Rotten or The Visit to win. If not, we will survive. We no longer have the all abiding love of theater we once had. We see  shows we think we will like or do it to pass the time. Sad our love of theater has over the recent years  ebbed  but life goes on.

And what has made your love for theater subside over the years? Anything in particular? Just curious.

Cynicism of people on the board. Seeing shows we enjoyed close prematurely. Obscene escalation of prices. Attitude of the audiences. General attitude of why bother anymore.

See what I mean. Namo does not contribute anything to any discussions. All he does is this type of b.s. His life consists of stalking the board and immediately put on what he thinks is a witty response as soon as I post.Instead his posts are sad and lame. This is what allegedly poses as serious theater discussion

I am signing off now Namo. You can go to bed now as soon as you post your alleged witty response.

Suggestion. Instead of continuing to read this board and discontinuing going to many Broadway shows, why don't you continue to go to the shows and discontinue reading this board.

Thousands have used this strategy and have been highly successful.

Though I didn't see Honeymoon in Vegas, I have a tough time imagining that it's better than The King and I.

Well, I didn't know that BWW was a board where there are medical doctors diagnosing conditions...with that said, I didn't enjoy "Honeymoon" and left during intermission, but I didn't really enjoy any of the Tony nominated musicals, except for Rotten and I hope they take the award home.

The nominations for actors and actresses were way off and they snubbed excellent performers, like Corey Cott, Lisa Howard, Vanessa Hudgens and others, while nominating and possibly awarding people and shows that are not worthy of the recognition. Same ol' stupid Tony voters...ugh.

To quote Amy Spanger, who should have been nominated for her work in The Wedding Singer: "it's not a big deal not to be nominated"

To Ol Blue Eyes

If I left this board, NAMO would be devastated & would have to hurl his venom elsewhere.  By leaving NAMO & his acolytes win and I would join the ton of people who have been hounded off the board by him & others. I would never give him that satisfaction.

I have survived cancer twice & a lot of crap over 68 years. I can deal with those on the board who do nothing but viciously attack people.

I like talking to people about the theater I use to know & occasionally theater today.

Thanks for the kind words Bilbo

They were both early stage (prostate & bladder) .The followup test for the bladder is a barrel of laughs

We watch the Tonys as it is generally an enjoyable show. We have seen all the nominated musicals & 2 of the 3 revivals (Missing King & I). We have seen none of the plays but such is life.

The 2 shows we favor will probably not win but we will not subscribe to the fact it is a giant cabal against them. We will probably disagree & move on. We will not throw fits or name call if a show doesn't win. Life goes on.

We enjoyed Rotten the most. After that is The Visit which is on life support & needs a win . Want Chita to win as let her go out with a bang. No big message involved. If AAIP or Fun win, more power to them. We just were not as enthused with them as many on the board & the mainstream & armchair critics. Whatever happens, there are more pressing problems in the world than who wins the Tony or assigning a big message if certain shows do not. We see shows. We like them or we do not. We than move on .Theater to us is just to forget our troubles for a few hours

Thanks to the OP for echoing my thoughts. What a generally uninspired season for new musicals. And last year was even worse.  The cabal that Roxy mentioned has a death grip on Broadway - soon to be taken over by the even more insidious cabal of Hollywood studios and producers.

In an aside, Roxy is one of my favorite posters on BWW.  It's difficult to imagine what he must have said in the past to warrant such vitriol from others on this board.  His courage in the face of such derision is inspiring.

Just caught Gigi -- nothing was snubbed, I'm not even sure Victoria Clark deserved the nom she got.  (Although I do think she was giving the best performance of the evening)  The book was a mess, the acting was incredibly 2 dimensional and I found most of the choreography adequate at best.

Stick around a little longer, you'll see why Roxy gets the derision he does.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I wrote nothing derisive of Roxy yesterday.  I asked him to just back up the conclusions about good and bad shows he arrived at this season with ideas instead of just saying, "It didn't grab the wife and me."  Okay, why?  What's funny is, by claiming he doesn't read what the many many people he has blocked have posted, he gets to reply to WHAT HE IMAGINES they posted.  So actually he wins.  He has fights and grudges with people who aren't fighting with him.  But he's above it because he doesn't read what we post but he responds every single time.

Otherwise I don't think about him.  I don't care if he posts here or doesn't.  But I realized just because he's not interested in having a discussion (the NERVE of him saying I don't contribute anything to any discussions! again, he imagines I don't, because he can't read what I post) about HOW he comes to like a show or not, I'm going to keep asking questions because I'd really like to know.  That is what a discussion looks like.

And yea muscle, I guess you don't know all sorts of things people have done in their lives.  But if somebody says, "A general feeling of why bother?" my training tells me to ask if they're suicidal.  And to put up a hotline number in case anybody else reading is.

THIS is what is called "stalking" by Roxy.

And to drama mama's point, Roxy is a two time cancer survivor who (before blocking existed and he could ignore questions he had no answers for) very famously argued in these threads that "nobody has a RIGHT to health care."  So, you know, that.

Thanks, Wilmington!

I detect a whiff of hard feelings.   Guys...guys...These Tony Nominated Musicals Are Lame; Bring Back Honeymoon in Vegas

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
