I'm currently looking for songs to audition for musical theatre programs next year with, and I have a contemporary ballad. I was looking at Art Is Calling For Me from The Enchantress, but unfortunately, it's from an opera. I didn't know if it was appropriate to go for the song or if I should find a new song. Thoughts?

Honestly I think it's better to have a song from a true music theatre piece. Something maybe more classic would work! Like She Loves Me, The Most Happy Fella...stuff like that. If you're going for specifically a music program though, opera would be a good choice.

So I currently work on Broadway. lucky me huh?   I have been on the other side of the table at those college auditions.   IN the end we do not care where the song is from.  we don't care what genre the song lives in.   What truly matters is the delivery, the talent, and the storytelling.    I have seen wonderful auditions and i say "where is that song from?"   sometimes we get shows, sometimes we get pop stars or country recording artists.

so in the end you need to pick something that shows off your talents and allows your acting skills to come through.   i get these types of questions all the time so i also started a blog that deals only with Music Theatre Auditions...www.bookthegig.wordpress.com

I dunno, I work in n Broadway so I guess I need to post here too. Right?
