I recently tracked down the CD of "The Ruthie Henshall Album" and I was surprised to read the following in the credits:

Recorded live with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Golders Green Hippodrome on April 29th 1996

Conducted by Martin Yates

Originally produced for radio by David Rayvern Allen

& engineered by Nick Gomm and musical associate Bobbie Field

Produced by Gordon Lorenz

Engineers: [sic] by Toby Wood and Mike Brown

It had never occured to me that this is a live album. I'd noted that it sounded different to Ruthie's debut solo album, not only in terms of orchestra size, but also in terms of a more compressed, less detailed sound. If it's a concert recording, how come there's no applause? Was it recorded at the soundcheck of the concert to provide "clean" endings to the numbers?

The crediting of two different engineer teams makes me suspect that the "Golders Green" credit is a mistake and that it's actually a studio recording of the songs from Ruthie's concert tour - similar to her most recent album in that respect.

Anyone care to shed some light on the subject?
