Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has redeemed 5000 points + cash ticket at Audience Rewards. I've noticed that some shows have both 5000 points + cash and 1000 points + cash tickets, and sometimes for the same performance. So I'm curious how the seats for 5000 points + cash tickets are. Any related information would be helpful. Thank you.

I think the difference is mainly on whether it's "ANYTIME" (usually the 5000 pts + cash) or whether it's "SELECT PERFORMANCES" (the 1000 pts+cash).  The Select performances are usually on mid-week (Tue-Thu). For example, "FUN HOME" offers both, and the breakdown is as I described above. Both are for Orchestra seats. I've redeemed a couple before, and I've got pretty good seats. They usually let you know after you redeem the exact seats that you get, well before the show. It's a good way to save money, IMO. :)

If you call, they may give you several options to pick from. I did the 5000 point deal for Matilda, and they let me pick my seat from what they had.

Hi guys,

I wanted to bump an old thread instead of starting a new one. I just signed up recently so I could use some advice from people who are more experienced AR users. How often do you purchase pre-sale tickets to earn points? Is there a certain ticket price you stick to where it makes sense to buy a full price ticket to get a certain number of audience rewards points? How difficult has it been to redeem points for tickets for other shows?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

I just purchased an advanced ticket to Bright Star a couple hours ago through Audience Rewards.  They're having a 5,000 point offer, and I was able to get a third row center orchestra aisle seat for about $135.  I thought that was pretty reasonable, so I went for it.  And I've found it very easy to redeem points for shows in the past when I have done it.

Yeah, I can be swayed pretty easily with a good pre-sale offer. I usually just queue them up for an easy 10,000 point purchase, and just booked two today like that...

I was just thinking about this earlier today - the value of the AR points, that is. Often you can get a good chunk of bonus points when you buy the most expensive level of seats (say 3,000 bonus points for a $137 orchestra seat). Even though you are buying the most expensive seat to that show, if you get in on their early redemption offers, 3,000 points could be worth an orchestra seat at another show.

I find the program to be worthwhile. I also have their credit card and use it only for theatre purchases, which you get double points on (I think).

I like a good rhyme more than a good time

Well, I love Audience Rewards program. Granted that I don't live in NYC, so my opportunity of using them is pretty limited to the weekend trips every other month. My rule of thumbs is that if the bonus points are 3000 or greater, then it's worthwhile to pay full price to get the bonus points. Otherwise, I just peruse the discount codes from BroadwayBox/TheaterMania/Playbill Club.

I hardly travel to NYC on weekdays, so most of the times I can't use it for the 1000+cash redemption tickets. HOWEVER, bear in mind that it can be used for Off-Broadway and the Met also, and it's worth it. The seats that they gave out even for 1000+cash points were great!

YMMV.

Thanks, guys. I got the Bright Star email as well. I know I want to see the show but $135 would be the most I've ever spent on a single ticket and if I think about it that way, I feel like I'm more likely to be disappointed in the show, but if I can work out the math with the rewards points then it might not be so bad.

I think your math is backwards. When you are paying less than that is when you are getting away with the math that doesn't support that show staying in business, the actors all making a living wage, and on and on. I love discounts, and I pay as little as I can to see a show, but... when that isn't an option, I just think of all the discounted seats I've been able to enjoy and figure every so often, it's completely fine to pay full price. I've even gone as far as paying premium for Larry David and JCM in Hedwig during their runs... if you average them out, I am still coming out way ahead. And if this is your first time paying $135, your math should work out the same.
