Maybe if you don't want to risk the ability to get rush tickets to shows. I haven't seen the appeal so far because the rush prices are cheaper than the TDF prices.

Rush seats are often partial view or in the boxes. TDF always offers full view seats, in my experience. I received front row side orchestra full view for The Visit, and was thrilled. If you're not a student, or don't feel like lining up for rush seats, TDF is a great alternative.
You don't even need to do it often...buying two or therapeutic breaks you even. The bigger concern for you is you need weekends which brings availability down.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
It's only $30. I had a promo code last year and got it for 20 or 25 as a first time buyer, so you may be able to get a lower price. Even if you use it one time, it's worth it. I used it exactly once last year and I just renewed. I live in CT. If I was in NY, I'd use it a lot more. The downside for me is you never know where your seats will be. I am kind of particular about where I sit, but if that doesn't bother you, go for it. I think it's worth it.
TDF is definitely worth it. Even though you can't choose your seats, you can buy in advance and know that you are actually going to a show on the day you want to go. We got 4th row seats to the Easter Bonnet show from tdf. If I don't do todaytix I do tdf.
Shows are listed for specific dates and on limited quantity.

I think it's worth it. My TDF seats for The Last Ship ended up being 5th row left orchestra, right on the center aisle.
It works pretty well for my circumstances. I'm not quite close enough (nor is it cheap enough for me to burn the cost of train tickets and parking should I have no luck or good backup plan) for me to feel comfortable trying rush, especially for evening shows. However, with a few midweek off days each month or the possibility of making a show after work depending on my shift, if I see something on TDF that works for me, it's only a 60-90 minute train ride away and I can make that choice on fairly short notice.
Can anybody sign up for TDF? I looked into it a little while ago and I got the impression that it's only certain groups of people who qualify, like students, teachers, army, retirees... none of which applies so me.
When I signed up, I wasn't living in the city and I had to put my zip code in, and it ended up only costing something like $10 a year or something? I've lived in the city for the past 3 years now, but it hasn't ever charged me more. I don't know if that's still a thing or not.
It's very much worth it. I was able to take three grandchildren to see the SPRING SPECTACULAR at Radio City without breaking the bank. The seats were good, too!
