Really? I didn't know it was going to be broadcast. It would be great if it was, because then someone could just record that (for conservation and preservation purposes of course of such a great production).
On a side note, does anyone have a copy of the PBS program Michael Feinstein's American Songbook episode one season three? It's the one with Dame Angela Lansbury watching footage of Gypsy and Stephen Sondheim with footage of Follies. It used to be on Youtube, but it was taken down before I could download it.
It's a great production and thank God it was recorded for commercial use so we would have to stage productions with Dame Angela preserved for the generations to see. I wish they would've done the same with Blithe Spirit.
Although it's makes for a richer experience to watch it on the big screen, I wish PBS would've showed it first. It could've finally won Dame Angela her first Emmy Award. Considering that she's hasn't appeared on TV in more than 10 years I doubt she'll have another chance, sadly.
Well, actually I think that Sweeney Todd was actually recorded three times professionally; once in 1979 and then once in 1980 (both times by TOFT), and then during the tour in 1982. Then the 1983 revival of Mame was also recorded by TOFT. And there are also all the press reel footages from all the other plays and musicals she has most recently starred in (2000 and after). So, actually a lot of her work in the theatre was preserved, but it is not publicly available. And of course, there are also all the other various bootlegs and home movies that exist.
And who knows, she could still very well make another TV appearance? Or maybe they will show it on PBS. Who knows?
