Today is Monday, April 20, marking the official OPENING NIGHT of Joe DiPietro's new comedy LIVING ON LOVE, at the Longacre, following previews that begin on April 1.

The cast of the new comedy, previously seen at Williamstown, features the Broadway debut of opera superstar Renée Fleming as Raquel De Angelis with Tony Award nominee Douglas Sills as Vito De Angelis, Jerry O'Connell as Robert Samson, two-time Emmy Award nominee Anna Chlumsky as Iris Peabody, Blake Hammond as Bruce and Scott Robertson as Eric, all under the direction of Kathleen Marshall.

"The world’s most famous opera singer Renée Fleming plays the world’s most famous opera singer in this hilarious new screwball comedy," according to press notes. "When her larger-than-life maestro husband (Sills) becomes enamored with the lovely young lady (Chlumsky) hired to ghostwrite his largely fictional autobiography, the diva retaliates by hiring her own handsome, young scribe (O'Connell) to chronicle her life as an opera star. Sparks fly, silverware is thrown, and romance blossoms in the most unexpected ways."

Post 'em here, kids!

The play itself will not get good reviews. However, Sills and Fleming should come out of it with good notices.

AMNY is Negative (2 Stars)

"'Living on Love' might have been enjoyable were it not for the complete emptiness of the piece itself. Although reminiscent of the screwball film comedies of the 1930s, it never moves beyond a simple, static scenario."

British Theatre is Pan (1 Star)

"This is not a text worthy of a Broadway stage. It needs much refinement. And the fault here does not lie in the stars."

Whatshisname Pinto did predict that this would get glowing reviews, right? Can't wait!

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

Ive still been hearing very great things about the show. I just heard Patty and Emily rave about the show, and other people I know who have seen it! The critics just don't like anything that isn't deep which is why they smashed It Shoulda Been You

I got my tix...still looking forward to seeing this show!  I went to On the Town based on the good reviews I read here and other sites and where did it leave me...bored and leaving at intermission.  So I'll trust my gut on this one even if contrary to many others opinion (except Philly's)

You're digging yourself quite the hole with this absurd and unfounded assertion that critics only like deep shows.

Ive been seeing more advertisements for this show. Ive also been seeing people post things like "seeing the show in june." Maybe they are selling better in the coming months.

Phillypinto: More advertisements for a show is a bad sign. It means that they are putting in more money in hopes of finding an audience, and although NBC New York has some nice pull quotes, these reviews aren't helping. Unless the show somehow gains tons of Tony nominations. It'll be closed by May, let alone June.

Philly, just because someone says they are seeing a given show in June doesn't mean that it's going to make it till then. Hell, even if telecharge or ticketmaster is selling that far out also means nothing. If a show, such as Living on Love, isn't making money despite being a limited run, they will pull the plug. Period, end of story. They would scrap tickets being sold online and give folks a full refund for those who bought them before the show closed.

idk littlebro, maybe they are trying to get people to come see the show now, and maybe they are well sold in June and July. A lot of her fans are from other countries. That can be something to consider.
