A Noise Within and Sacred Fools? You're legit, Angela. So, there's some big vote/referendum debate going on in So Cal right now regarding some Equity rule that affects smaller theatres, right? What's your take on that? .
The 99-seat proposal is definitely a contentious issue around here right now. The tricky thing, in my opinion, is that there are a wide variety theatres that are currently on the 99-seat plan. Some have big budgets, some are working on a shoestring. Some have their own spaces, some rehearse in people's living rooms. AEA has put forward a proposal that treats all these different sorts of theatres as though they are the same. There are some theatres who have gross inequity in their budgeting, and are not paying actors an amount that feels fair when looking at their budgets as a whole, and I believe that needs to be addressed. But there are other theatres that are barely scraping by as is, and I don't believe that they should be held to the same contract. I'm hoping that AEA will be able to come up with some sort of bridge contract or tiered plan instead of the one-size-fits-all proposal that's currently on the table. Jeff Marlow has some suggestions here: http://www.99tohat.com/
@YouWantItWhen??? -- I live in Highland Park, and work in Koreatown, Pasadena, Hollywood, and Culver City (mostly Culver City starting Monday... the tv show I work on is coming back from hiatus and films at Sony).
I used to walk by the Mad Men studio on my way to work. So, yeah...
(Thanks for the info on the 99 seat proposal, FlowerPower. Yeah, that does seem like way too broad an approach. Clearly annual budgets have to be taken into consideration. Are theatres with bigger budgets who can - at least on paper - afford to compensate actors more also opposing the proposal? Do you get the impression they're opposing it because they want to save their smaller colleagues in the community from financial ruin or because they're exploiting those worries to keep all of their own funds on the administrative side of their operations?)
(@HorseTears -- Actually, the 99-seat theatres with bigger budgets, for the most part, already pay higher than AEA minimums. And several of them had approached Equity asking for some sort of bridge contract to help them transition into being on contracts. Equity ignored those requests, and slammed them with this proposal instead, which increases minimum actor pay by 1000%.)
I live in the NoHo Arts district and just finished designing Serrano.

I just booked an Equity contract in Thousand Oaks at Kingsmen Shakespeare, and I live in Highland Park. If anyone has a couch I could occasionally crash on closer to Thousand Oaks, please PM me.
