Reporter: Doctor Found Dead Was Devastated by Martin Short Impersonation

According to reports, Dr. Fredric Brandt—the celebrity dermatologist behind the many faces of Madonna and Stephanie Seymour—was found dead Sunday in his Miami home.

Brandt’s publicist, Jacquie Trachtenberg, confirmed his death, saying, “He passed away this morning. He was suffering from an illness. Everyone who knows him is devastated... I worked with him for over 20 years and he was an amazing man, not only was he a brilliant doctor, but he was the kindest human being.”

But a Miami Herald blogger says Brandt was also depressed and "devastated" by a Martin Short character thought to be based on him.

Pugs - the all-at-once vs tiered release strategy will continue to evolve.  I think, eventually, most major content producers will probably have a hybrid of them both. There's certainly going to be a lot of experimentation in the next couple of years.  Yahoo! is releasing eps of the rebooted Community in small bundles, rather than all at once.  PBS experimented with the latest Ken Burns series by making all of the episodes available online before they were broadcast.  Netflix is even trying the flip of their model by releasing their new scifi series Between one week at a time.

There's still something to be said about the communal experience of staggered, weekly airings, though.  Especially when we get to event tv like Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones.

Yep! I don't disagree. I think I would ultimately prefer an HBO-like model: shorter seasons (10-13 episodes), full storyline, weekly release. I think the communal experience really does makes a show sometimes. Releasing a show as a dump makes you have to duck and hide on the internet from spoilers (yes, she killed him in the final episode!).

"Netflix is even trying the flip of their model by releasing their new scifi series Between one week at a time."

That would probably be smart.  I got my free month of Netflix and cancelled before it renewed.  Then I got it last month for "Kimmy" (and then watched both seasons of "The Fall" and a "Black Mirror" and a "Luther") and then cancelled.  I'll probably get it again for the Lily Tomlin/Jane Fonda show and cancel by the end of that month too.

Even though I really don't like binge watching, I kind of do like only paying for the service once in a while.

Well I detest th 10-13 episodes a year model that's becoming so popular. I know that it's been around for years in other countries, but I really just hate it. At the start of each new season I've basically forgotten everything that I am supposed to have remembered since it's been almost a year since I last saw it.

One advantage to having a show roll out over several months is that in theory, anyway, they can tweak what wasn't working.  Kimmy Schmidt managed to do that to some extent (getting rid of the guy from All My Children who played her initial love interest,) but I do think some of my issues with the final episodes may have been better addressed.

Unless he makes an appearance next season, I'm surprised how they quickly they got rid of the tutor. I also assume the son had a much bigger role initially until they went in a totally different direction with the teenaged girl instead. Less Nanny Diaries and more 2010-teenager commentary.

Not that anyone gives a fig about my progress, but just found out why you all were yelling "Pinot Noir".  I'm still quite taken aback at my complete 360 on this show.  I went from loathing it to adoring it.  Glad I'm parceling it out to a few eps a week, though.  I can see how binging this particular type of show might end up being too much of a good thing.

Its actually stylized as "Peeno Noir." Makes it that much better.

I thought the episode when the romance with the tutor falls apart is just fantastic. I actually saw the entire season again yesterday while working on my dissertation and loved it just as much. I don't think the episodes have the same rewatchable quality than 30 ROCK does (I've seen some of my favorite episodes over 30 times over the years, and I may be rounding down), but Ellie Kemper's performance is so winning. She's perfect in the role. I can't get over it. The rhymes in "Pinot Noir" kill me. And I can't get enough of Jane Krakowski, ever. The way she pronounces the name "Hung-yan" is genius.

that's because Netflix operates more like a cable channel rather than a network. It's not that it's becoming more popular, just that shows that operate that formula are becoming more popular. Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy, etc.

So far I've watched the first three episodes- I mostly found the first one a bore, but episodes two and three have some great bits in them. Everyone is consistently very funny, though I hope they give Carol Kane something more to do this season. I am curious to know where exactly the geisha subplot is headed- I don't think it's offensive on its face, but I thought the critique of internet outrage culture in episode three was a bit heavy-handed and lazy. Clearly Tina Fey and Robert Carlock didn't respond well to the critiques of the Jacqueline subplot in Season One, which I did think was a misguided choice, but I'm not really interested to watch them rail against "haters" for an entire season.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I enjoyed Season 1 but rather love Season 2.

I am embarrassed to say that I found a certain depth of emotion, too- the coming out dinner was touching, Jacqueline's principles and Kimmi bursting into tears at the Brandon wedding- actually moving.

Plus some scream-out-loud gags- especially Titus eating ant/taffy and burgers he'd found deep in a city dump!

Trident Gum is the chewiest gum

Give it to your friends and chew it with your teeth

Your teeth are bones that live outside

They hang from your lips like bats

Oooooh outside bones, outside bones

Never forget that teeth are outside bones

They're bones that you wash and when you're a kid

They fall from your head

And to make things less weird we say they got stolen

By a demon that your parents know

I really enjoyed the second season. It felt more grounded- all the characters had very clear arcs for the season.

Also: more Amy Sedaris.

I tried to like this show but bailed after 4 episodes. I watched a later episode in season 1 only because a friend of mine was in it. I love Tina Faye and Jane but this just doesn't do it for me. JMO

I HATE Mimi Kanassis, but I sure was happy every time she had another scene.

I also cannot overstate how much I love Gil Birmingham and Sheri Foster Blake as Jacqueline's (or, rather Jackie Lynn's) parents. That subplot still isn't quite sitting right with me, but their scenes were always perfect. Sheri Foster Blake, in particular, has AMAZING line readings.

I was also so happy that they brought Mikey back as a real character. It's nice that his coming out last season wasn't just left as a joke,
