1. What time do people start these days? I've seen everything from midnight to 6am

2. I read that matinee is often easier to get than evening.  Anyone able to comment on this?

3. Can someone please confirm that I will be there until the show starts and that it's unlikely there will be anything available until 1 hour to 30 minutes before curtain call?

4. If I also register for the lottery, what is the time frame for an outcome with this?

5. How bad has the 'line sitter' situation become?

6. Any other suggestions would be most welcome as I am originally from the area but my Aussie partner has never been and this is a bucket list trip.

Thanks!  :)

"

Hi Phillyoz, I've numbered your questions so I can answer them more easily.

1. For a matinee, getting there before 6am would pretty much guarantee you a ticket. This would of course also depend on weather conditions - the day I went, it had just rained the night before and the pavements were still quite damp, so perhaps some people who planned to queue did not end up joining it.

2. I think the more common saying is that it allows you more chances for a ticket. This is seeing as on two show days, you would be able to continue queueing for the following show if you aren't able to get the first one. However, I personally see it as "easier" in the sense that you do not have to wait as long as you do for an evening show, and would usually be able to get your tickets by about noon or right after if you are near the beginning of the line.

3. They will likely start calling in the cancellation queue to get tickets after the deadline for lottery tickets has passed. On matinee days, this would be 11am. We got our tickets at about 11.30am, and we were third in line. This could go on till 5 minutes before show time, but if you get there early enough you should have the time to go off and have a good well-deserved meal before catching the show. (Note: If you get your tickets less than half an hour before the show, all parties who are attending the show must be present)

4. Lotteries open at 8am for matinee days, and close at 10am. You will be able to check the outcome immediately after the lottery closes, and if you win you will have to make payment online within the hour (by 11am). For evening shows, the lottery opens at 10am and closes at 1pm, and payment is to be made by 2pm.

5. I think it would depend on the day you are going, but these line-sitters do get there very early (about 3am or earlier). They're very nice though, and are open to telling you about how many tickets they need and all. They may even talk to you about the show as many of them have seen it multiple times.

6. I'm not from New York so I'll leave it up to someone else!

Good luck!!!!! Bring a pillow, it'll definitely help.

1-2 tickets for May 10th, 8pm

Hi everyone!

I will be waiting in line for the Hamilton cancellation line on May 10th, 2017 for the 8pm performance. I will have one extra ticket which I will sell to you if you buy my ticket + $50. So I think the total cost will be about $500. Depending on the response that I receive, I will bring a friend along and therefore I will have two tickets for sale. Private message me if you're seriously interested!

As long as we're on the theme... Three of us will be attempting the line sometime next week, the 16th-18th. For any one of the 4 shows if someone wants to help with our tickets in exchange for buying the extras, it would be very appreciated!!

I waited in line at 3am and didn't get tickets. There were 7 people ahead of me. Earliest was in line at 10pm the night before. BUT it was Chris Jackson's last weekend so it could have been because of that. Might be easier now.

Was this today for the matinee? I haven't seen much about waiting in the cancellation line on days where there are only evening shows.  Any tips on this? (typical time that people start waiting?)

Also, does anyone know about bringing backpacks and how that works once you get a ticket to go into the theatre?

There is no bag check. Anything you have with you when you get your tickets, you bring into the theatre (Unless you get one of the tickets they sell like an hour prior to curtain, then you may have time to drop it off at the hotel?

Hey everyone- my friend and I have decided to try the line this Saturday, 5/13. If anyone is interested in a pair of tickets for either show that day and is willing to help us pay for our own tickets, please message me!

Actually there is a bag/coat check. Every time I've done cancellation I've always checked my backpack and foldie chair. It's downstairs to the left just as you enter the theatre and it's $1 per item.

Had great luck in the Hamilton cancellation line last Wednesday (May 17th) for the 2:00pm show!

I arrived just after 12:00pm. There were only a few people in line and they were being called in to get tickets right then (likely because the lottery winner payment deadline had just passed). I definitely saw 3 people come out with tickets, but I believe more got tickets before I arrived. They stopped calling people in around 12:10pm; I was third in line behind two people who had also just arrived. The theater workers told us there would likely be more tickets so we should stick around.

They moved the cancellation line back to the stage door, which was pretty cool since the whole cast walked right by us! Then nothing else happened until 1:50pm--10 minutes before showtime. They told us they had 6 tickets available, and they walked us into the box office to buy our tickets.

One of the women who'd purchased a single cancellation ticket around noon had been given a seat in row J, so I assumed anything released later would be further back. Imagine my shock when all six seats were in the second row center (off the right aisle)! I nearly fell over. They must have been unclaimed lottery seats, but they weren't released right after the 12pm lottery payment deadline for some reason (anyone have any thoughts on why that would happen?). Each ticket was $229. Not sure if they released any standing room since we had to go straight into the theater after purchasing.

Hopefully this info is helpful for people who want to see the show but don't line up because they can't get there at 4:00am. I've been checking out this board for ages and I figured the best I could hope for by lining up so late was standing room, MAYBE, if I was incredibly lucky. I was gobsmacked to get second row seats lining up less than two hours before showtime. Not sure if last Wednesday was an anomaly for some reason (it was a super hot day, so maybe people weren't willing to stand outside?) or if there's a bit of a lull in demand before summer vacations hit, but I hope someone gives it a try this week and lets us all know how it goes! Good luck!

Sometimes they put the unclaimed lotto seats back up for sale for premium prices and then if they don't sell they release to the cancellation line.  Seems to happen when they have a large number go unclaimed so they can sell pairs.  They might also hold some back as house/VIP seats, since I've gotten lotto seats right before curtain that never showed up on line.

Wednesdays seem to be lucky days for short waits.  On a Wednesday in March I got in line at 5:30pm and got a row G center orch seat 2 minutes before the 8pm curtain.  It was even a EduHam day, so only 1 show was available.

Excited to share my experience with the Hamilton cancellation line!

A friend and I arrived at the theatre around 6:30 am on Saturday, May 20th in hopes of getting tickets for the 2:00 show. We were about 17th and 18th in line at this point. The first three people in line were professional line sitters who arrived around 3:30 am. A girl joined the line behind us around 7:00 am, and a few more around 8:30 am. Only 8 tickets total ended up being sold for the matinee showing. The first two people in front of the line (2 tickets each) were called in to purchase tickets around 12:30 pm. Another pair of tickets was sold around 1:40 pm, and two standing room seats were offered around 1:50 pm. The rest of us were out of luck for tickets to the matinee performance.

Disappointed, we decided to remain in line in hopes of getting tickets for the 8:00 show. At this point, we were 9th and 10th in line. At 2:15 pm, a lady approached the line in front of the theatre with two tickets for the 2:00 show that she was willing to sell for $100 each. Most people in line turned them down because we didn't want to miss any of the show, but two ladies in front of us bought them, moving us up to 7th and 8th in the cancellation line. I asked a box office worker when they would start offering tickets to the 8:00 show, and was told 5:00 at the earliest. We got comfortable in line again and were pleasantly surprised when around 3:00 they began preparing to offer us tickets. The people in front of us were immediately called in the box office to purchase unclaimed lottery tickets and my friend and I were brought in at 3:15 to purchase second row seats for $230 each. I am unsure how many people behind us were also offered tickets as we immediately left to enjoy our afternoon in the city before coming back to the theatre for the show.

Nine hours spent waiting in line was definitely worth the second row Hamilton experience! We made great friends in line and time flew by. Best of luck to anyone trying the cancellation line soon!

I tried the cancellation line on Saturday, May 13th.  It was raining all day that day.  So I guess it was a good day to try the line.  I got in line about 4:00 pm.  There were 8 people in line ahead of me.  The next person arrived at 5:00 pm and got in line behind me.  Then around 5:30, a couple of more arrived.  About 7:00 pm, that's when everybody started arriving to get in the cancellation line.

The first two in line were professional line sitters.  They got their tickets at 5:00 pm.  Then about 6:30, numbers 3 and 4 got tickets.  Then they didn't let anybody else have tickets until 7:50 pm.  So, I got my tickets right at 8:00 pm.    I got Row F, Front and Center.  Awesome Seats!!   I know the couple behind us got tickets.  But other than that, I don't know how far down the line how many were able to get in.

Great Experience, even though I had a rain jacket and umbrella and my daughters shoes were soaking wet.  We bonded.  lol

This thread is fantastic, thanks for all the info so far!

I'm curious how getting 2 tickets works. If I wait by myself but have a friend who wants to come, how much notice will I have to let them know when to get there? If I've read the rules correctly we can't switch places in line. Do we both need to be in line?

You can buy 2 tickets by yourself, your friend doesn't need to be there.  (Unless you're paying individually.)  You can't switch places in line, but people will be ok with it, if you're up front about it and one of you is always in line.  Just don't suddenly switch and say you want 4 tickets, that would be against the rules and piss off everyone else.

If you don't get tickets earlier in the day, both of you should be in line by an hour/hour-and-a-half before the show, because at that point you'll be buying tickets and going right into the theater.

Hey everyone! I waited at the cancelation line in November and was able to score cancelation tickets thanks to all of your helpful suggestions! I am currently trying to score standing room tickets for this Thursday's (6/2) performance with my sister! Does anyone know if they've been giving out standing room tickets lately? I really appreciate any help/ advice!

It's hard to predict how many SRO tickets there will be, if any, since it depends on how many cast requests they get.  You can ask, nicely, at the box office and they might know, but they might not.  I would get in line in the early AM and see what you can find out when the box office opens.  If you want tickets, 1 or both of you will have to be in line all day, they don't sell it until just before curtain.

My daughter and I are travelling to NYC tomorrow (Thursday June 8th for a week (graduation gift trip).  Her ultimate dream (and mine!) would be to get to see Hamilton while we are there.  We plan to enter the lottery every day we are there.  Is it still 10,000 people a day entering it?  Or have the numbers decreased since the original cast left?  Our flight gets in Thursday at 10am and we are going to drop our stuff off and head straight to the theater to try the cancellation line.  If we got there at 11 or 12 would that be too late to get a decent spot in line?  I was reading in the past posts that on 1 show days the line starts forming later and even saw some people got tickets that got in line mid afternoon?  If tomorrow doesn't happen then we will probably try again one more time while we are there.  I read all the past posts and will utilize all the tips I saw....if anyone has anything additional to offer, feel free to reply!!  Wish us luck!!

Does anyone know the current price of tickets for the cancellation line? It used to be $199 for front row, like 550 for premium seats, and something like $40 for SRO. Has this changed at all?

Angela - There might not be that many entering the lotto now, but it's still not easy.  It's hard to tell if you'll get there too late.  There are so many big shows this season, I think it's reduced the demand for Hamilton.  You could always go to the theater first and leave your daughter, I'm assuming she's 17/18 or older, in line while you go check in.  If you feel comfortable doing that, I've been in line when people have done it.

Tom M2 - Cancellation tickets are mostly $229, regardless of location, though I've heard of people getting side orch for $199.  At least as of last month.  They will offer premium seats to the line, most people turn them down.  I don't know if SRO price has changed.

" As of last Saturday, June 3: the premium seats are first offered at $749 then later in the waiting period/closer to show time they will drop them to $229. Unclaimed lottery seats are $229. Side orchestra/partial view are $199. Standing Room is $40

Hope this helps

Has anyone had experience lining up for the evening show on a two show day? How does that work? Do people who don't get in for the morning show get priority, or is it a free for all? What time does that line start?
