Hey y'all!
I'm auditioning for colleges next year and my voice teacher told me to start putting together a binder. I have no idea why to put in it though!!!!

I'm a Mezzo-Belt but I have a three octave range.

Help me.

Your voice teacher and audition coach will have recommendations.
But, simply check the audition requirements for this year for schools you are considering. Likely, you will need some collection of songs that fit: up tempo, slow/ballad, pre:1960 or 1965 and modern. You can look at "do not sing" lists - but there are few "official" "do not sing" lists (or overdone lists).
Sing a song that means something to you that you can connect with and bring some acting to. You have to show you can do more than hit the notes. So, sing something you love to sing - because you'll be singing it a lot!

I would avoid belting songs for college auditions. It's a wonderful skill to have but so many students will audition using that technique and it's truly not going to get you a lot of notice. It can also be damaging to your voice and some schools may worry about your overall vocal health if they hear belting form a high school student. I would include a variety of Golden Age or "legit" musical theater pieces (ex. cole porter, irving berlin, gershwin, meredith wilson, frank loesser) in a variety of cuts. Try including a full song version, a 32 bar version, and 16 bar version of each song. Make sure the accompaniment is clearly marked for each piece. Also throw in some contemporary pieces (ex. bartram and hill, pasek and paul, tom kitt, jason robert brown). You should have a nice variety of uptempo songs and ballads, make sure to keep your "type" in mind when choosing pieces. example: don't sing "memory" from cats if you're a young girl.
