"It's also the type of voice we haven't heard nearly enough of lately. Gaga diehards are well aware that she can make one's skin tingle during her headlining shows, but how often has the casual fan seen that side of Gaga over the past five years? The pop diva's career has been defined by pushing aesthetic boundaries, and while she sets aside ample time during her concerts to sit behind a piano and strip down her artistry, her public persona has been dedicated to the type of innovation that often drowns out the sound of the simple song craft that serves as its foundation. We can hear Gaga's powerful pipes at work during her iconic 2011 American Music Awards performance of "Bad Romance," for instance, but it's also easy to be distracted by the costume, the headdresses, the choreography and the props surrounding them."
Yup. At this point, the fans are quite blind to what she wears. We love it, and appreciate it as her particular definition of vulnerability, a part of her creative DNA. But it is wonderful that she has yet another opportunity to show the world that she is not "hiding" behind her elaborate productions, as she clearly has nothing to hide.
I feel like she shows that side of herself all the time and every single time she does people are just shocked because she has "never shown that side of herself before!!!".
This goes back at least to the Very Gaga Thanksgiving special of a few years back.
I feel like she shows that side of herself all the time and every single time she does people are just shocked because she has "never shown that side of herself before!!!"
Yes, she's had many televised performances throughout the last several years that show off her ability to just "stand there and sing". Her special with Tony Bennett aired in October or something. But, alas, there are still some who are shocked (SHOCKED) that she can actually sing.
Well, in the public's defense, for so long she has been about the spectacle and not the actual songs. I remember being blown away a few years back at the Grammeys when she sang with Elton John. She has a legit voice, but it seemed for a while she was more focused on distracting from her singing than highlighting it.
"there are still some who are shocked (SHOCKED) that she can actually sing."
Hearing her sing good songs with melodies like that IS shocking. Some of her pop songs are really great but a lot of her b-tracks and "original" stuff is just not compelling. I really think she should collaborate more. That Tony Bennett stuff felt like crooning for crooning's sake.
Well, in the public's defense, for so long she has been about the spectacle and not the actual songs.
Not disagreeing with that, but she does have one of the most diverse and impressive discographies in contemporary pop. Trouble is, especially on her last two albums, the most unique and innovative material is not released to radio because, well, it wouldn't work. Not to do with quality, it just doesn't fit in any particular box meant for the masses.

Right? If there's anything gays like more than cock, it's the pop star "comeback". Honestly, I think the only one who hasn't had one is Beyonce, because, frankly, how can you come back from near constant ubiquity?
I just vomited in my mouth a little at that idea, SNAFU. I don't hate everything Madonna has done, but I personally think she has a really weak voice.
I think my first exposure to Lady Gaga's good singing was in SNL when she was just a musical guest. I remember thinking "Why doesn't she use this voice more often?" I think because of her outfits and popular songs, I didn't hate her, but she wasn't very special.

I feel the same about the supposed Kristin/Idina feud or the supposed Patti/Bernadette feud or the supposed Ethel/Mary feud or the supposed Bette/Joan feud.
Well, the Bette/Joan feud was real, but all the others are just made-up out of latent misogyny.
Not disagreeing with that, but she does have one of the most diverse and impressive discographies in contemporary pop.
Wait...what? Her one break from recording style was Cheek to Cheek. The Fame + The Fame Monster, Born This Way and Artpop make of the rest of her discography. How is that one of the most diverse and impressive in contemporary pop?

Another excerpt from Madge's upcoming Rolling Stone cover interview:
"No one would dare to say a degrading remark about being black or dare to say a degrading remark on Instagram about someone being gay," Madonna continues. "But my age – anybody and everybody would say something degrading to me."
Yes, that's right. No one, not one person, would ever say a degrading thing about somebody being black or gay (or both). No one.

Obviously "impressive" is totally subjective, but as far as diverse... have you actually heard her albums all the way through? If so, you would know that even her last two albums alone covered a very wide and eclectic array of genres that most pop stars couldn't even touch: 80's dance, stadium rock, R&B, funk, EDM, metal, hip-hop, rock opera, piano ballads, country, and even mariachi.
Even when looked at as separate entities, her four pop albums sound nothing like each other.
