He isn't "unreliable". If he was, they would not have hired him. I have seen this show twice, and both times he was on, and absolutely incredible. He doesn't work on Thursday nights.
Out of the 4 times I have seen this revival, I have seen Ramin twice. Of the 3 people I know who have seen the revival, only one saw Ramin. Make of that what you will (and none of these performances were on Thursday nights). I agree with the person who said look at the board the night you are there. If his name is up, by your ticket.
See I'd go to the box office, but I was going to use the TheaterMania discount and I don't know if I can get the deal the day of. Does he usually perform the Wednesday matinees?
In Ramin's defense, this production has had an alternate from the get go. It used to be that he wouldn't perform Wednesday afternoons, but that got changed to Thursdays.
Also, there were a slew of dates (all of which were announced on the Telecharge page for Les Miserables as well as the ticket section of the show's website) that he wasn't going to be performing due to concert dates and other gigs as well. And, those were posted in the two appropriate places way in advance of them happening. So, I do think that it's wrong to say that he has a poor attendance record. That's clearly not the case at all.
Ramin is simply having the same vocal problems he had when he was in London doing Love Never Dies. So, with all the respect, I think it's okay to define his schedule "unreliable"
As others have said, he is very unreliable, but all of his scheduled absences are on Telecharge, so it's always best to check there first to see if anything's posted.

Ramin's day off has always been Thursday, from the get-go. It was the same in Toronto.
It was for a time that his performance off was on Wednesday afternoons. However, I believe that that got changed to Thursdays when he came back full on after being back and forth form doing his other gigs.
For what it's worth, I'm a big fan of both this production and this show and have seen it more times than I care to admit. From my experiences, whenever Ramin was supposed to be on he was. If it was a performance that he had a scheduled alternate go on or it was one of his scheduled absences, of course he wasn't on.
Now, I am sure that there were plenty of people who didn't realize that he had scheduled performances that he was going to miss for other gigs. Is that why people are saying that he is unreliable because they didn't notice that? Or is it simply because they genuinely feel that that's the case?
Islander_fan, even looking at the @Understudies twitter account shows that Ramin is out of Les Mis much more then his scheduled Thursday or other off days. It's just a fact. On a related note, it is really rare that any of the current principle cast is on. Must be nice to be an understudy at Les Mis! Just last weekend Erin Clemons went on as Eponine and Fantine...in the same day.
I've been a fan of ramin for years, and he is genuinely a nice guy but the bigger he has got the more unreliable he has become. He has never been a fan of 8 shows a week right back in his phantom days and he will pull out if not feeling up to it,or if he wants to focus on other projects (e..g his recording career at the time). I was shocked he is doing a second contract and it would not surprise me if (like in lnd) his second contract sees him performing less
I was on the phone with telecharge today about something else, and I asked them about Ramin's schedule since I am curious about it as well. I saw him in the fall and I saw one of the understudies in the winter. Although the understudy was good, Ramin is awesome. The show felt completely different to me with him in it.
Telecharge said he is officially off all Thursday evenings for the foreseeable future and there are NO additional scheduled performances off for him as of right now. She said that the producers keep in close contact with telecharge and if any additional absences are added ahead of time, obviously not including last minute cancellations, telecharge finds out about it.
So ... my advice is to either do a same day purchase after checking the list of actors on the board for the day, as others here have suggested, or pick a day and time he would seem to be least likely to miss and call telecharge right before you purchase the tickets and ask them if there have been any added absences.
Assuming he is choosing to miss a performance in order to rest, rather than missing because of another event he has to attend, I would guess Friday or Saturday night would be the days I would bet on him most likely being there. Those tickets are more expensive and there are more people in the audience so missing an evening weekend show would seem to be a bigger problem than other days/times, and he already takes Thursdays off, so I would go with Friday or Saturday night.
Going with the matinee seeing as I got tickets for another show Wednesday night. Thinking you know he'll be there he's had Monday off. Anyone gone to a Wednesday matinee? Was he there?
Finally caught Ramin and this revival last night. (A packed house, by the way.) Hadn't seen a live Les Miz since the original's glory days of the late 80's/ early 90's.
Easily the best Jean Val Jean I've seen live. Yeah, the hype around Ramin's performance is deserved and he's still in great voice. However, (and heresy to say this but) his BRING HIM HOME seemed way too high for his comfort range. He was pushing to make those notes the whole way through.
Rest of the cast could sing the hell out of the score, with standouts Gavin Lee and Rachel Izen as the most enjoyable Thenardiers I've yet seen, and Brennyn Lark doing beautiful work as Eponine (I guess it's now codified for this production that Eponine MUST be black.)
Despite all that, Lord what a boring staging of the show this is. The basic idea seemed to be: stand in a line across the stage, move upstage en masse, then move downstage en masse, then exit. Oy. How I miss the dynamic of the original thrilling production, clicheed turntable choreography and all. At least the thing MOVED! Kind of surprising to see a show like this redesigned now to follow the rules of George Abbott's era of scenes staged in one to allow bigger sets to change upstage center. For Les Miz?? ReallY?
