Apologies if this has already been posted, but I just heard this feature on NPR and thought it might be fun to see what everyone thought. I'd say a good chunk of it is tongue in cheek, but given how much love "Follies" gets around here (and deservedly so)...discussion?

Would love to see it...as long as they treat it with the respect it deserves, cast true Broadway stars and don't go for the TV "name" cast.

Please, no.

But better a TV version than some film director turning it into something different...and lesser.

What I wouldn't give to have a gif of Meryl's "Who cares?!" From Into the Woods. Please have a seat NPH

As opposed to a TV director turning it into something different...and lesser? I'm not really interested in lesser from either camp. Different is inevitable as it's a different form.

Television would inflict less damage.

This is the bilge NPR serves up to the public?

Makes me glad I'm not one of its listeners.

I half-heard this story coming from the radio in the other room over dinner. I had to run to the kitchen to make sure it wasn't a Sondheim obituary, and when I realized it wasn't, made a mental note to listen today. Thanks for the reminder- it was wonderful except for that mean Liza dig! For shame!)

I would love to see Follies. Without Meryl Streep.

I wish they would just create stage productions of these televised shows and film them on the stage.

A better idea is to film actual shows on stage with all involved getting adequate compensation much like the previous poster mentioned.

Re Follies, it will be a tough sell. Peter Pan & Sound were kid friendly shows known to most people. Hard as it may be to believe, many people probably never heard of Follies. Imagine reading a description:" A theater about to be demolished hosts a farewell party attended by people who appeared there in vaudeville accompanied by their ghosts". I can see man people tuning into it - not. I hope it happens but it might be a ratings nightmare. Who knows.

That wasn't really worth listening to - just like a BWW dreamcast post, except with soundclips.
