As someone of a certain age, I've really come to appreciate Madge's artistry late in her career. She remains the touchstone of pop culture on this planet.

I think it will divide people, the ones looking for another confessions for example will be disappointed, the amount of ballads and mid tempos is crazy (for me that's a great thing). The album feels like a lot of thought has gone in to it, it's not a stick it on and have a dance album (I know some are composing that Avicii getting bumped off Rebel Heart and Wash All Over Me has hurt them, for me it's given them strength), it's one you have to sit down and listen to. I've only found 2 tracks I skip (out of 25) Hold Tight is weak now (yet was my fave demo) and Beautiful Scars which is weak. 2 are average (Best Night and S.E.X), the rest are brilliant. Iconic, Joan of Arc, Heartbreak City, Addicted, Holy Water, Messiah are huge standouts, Queen is wonderfully strange.

"Beautiful Scars" was one of my favorite demos but now it's just "too much". It was so much better stripped down without all the bells and whistles added for the final product.

And ditto everything above for "Hold Tight"

I thought the demo for Beautiful Scars was ok but needed something doing to it, but this is the wrong way, it sounds like a bad dance remix of a ballad. Upset that Hold Tight was changed so much, they have killed that song. The rest though is pretty damn epic, she can be very proud of this album.

I love Best Night and SEX because it reminds me of Art of Noise' moments in love' which is probably where it was going for. And scratches the whole justify my love/Erotica days

Also- i love how she pulls from herself--- but also is introspective.

I'm just REALLY HAPPY that it's not a frilly album about dancing, djs and setting your body free.
It's actually thought provoking, lyrically content and well produced.

Def album of the year. a great pop record all around.
and i see grammy noms next year for this one.

I got the whole Erotica vibe from Best Night as well, right down to the slow finger snaps

I think the few dance songs she has put on there (Iconic, Illuminati etc) are brilliantly done, Iconic is blowing my mind. However its the mid tempos and ballads that are just sensational, Messiah and Wash All Over Me are EPIC, so glad other than a slight rhythm they have left Heartbreak City alone, that is a classic Madonna ballad.
This is for sure one of her best albums.

I dont think shes gonna, the press release today about the video is keeping the release at March 10th, the leaks dont seem to have hurt that much, its climbing back in to the ITunes charts around the world, her pre orders are very healthy so it should be OK. Honestly i think she will get number one with the album, hopefully it can have more longevity than MDNA, especially after the amount of work she has put in to this one.

I like MDNA, its a fun dance album with some great songs on, but yes i have to say this is far superior, its getting me excited for the tour.

BEST NIGHT is one of my favorites, it proves she still has the ability to make music like she used to and not just need to try to emulate whatever the "modern vibe" in music is. It's a gorgeous sexy song that until I read above didn't even click with me how "Erotica-esque" it is.

I also just love GRAFFITI HEART. I have a feeling it'll be just one of those throwaway tracks nobody talks about, but I've been loving that one for a while. MESSIAH is still possibly my favorite of the whole album, along with ADDICTED, DEVIL PRAY and GHOSTTOWN. I love that people are saying how they hate how ballad-heavy this album is. That's exactly what I've been praying she would put out for so long now, as many of you here can attest to.

Yeah it seems a certain section of her fans are saying its too ballad and mid tempo,yet it seems like thats what most Madonna fans have been asking for, she cant please everyone.

Im shocked how she and the producers turned the awful demos of Iconic an Holy Water in to brilliant songs, i think Iconic might be the next single. Im coming round to Hold Tight now, i just need to forget about the demos that we shouldn't have heard anyway. Joan of Arc is on a loop for me, and what West has done to Wash Al Over Me is brilliant, Queen is also a standout, strange but a standout

Yep Snapchat for 24hrs , its kinda brilliant really, the amount of people who will get to see it (dont they have like 200 million users),plus anyone who dont have Snapchat who is a Madonna fan will be eager to watch it on You Tube when it premieres on there.

it's nice to have a classic Madonna video that really captures what she's best at.

The video has a lot of great depth and layers in its simplicity.
You can see it mean a lot of things.
Love, relationships.career, detractors, pop princesses, etc etc etc.

High Praise and reviews for new video/song

I dunno... Is the washed out high contrast look there to completely hide any cosmetic flaws while claiming the effect is there for the artistic vision of the director? And the incessant, cheesy bull grunts? And the image of a 56 yr old woman sucking on her thumb like a baby? And the low production values? This is what a Madonna video is now? Ugh.

I don't need a bunch of bells and whistles. In fact, I find those everything-but-the-kitchen-sink videos bloated and ineffective. But, this could have been shot, lit and edited with 10 times more sophistication. Looks like such a rush job.

Of course it's over exposed, she likes to look flawless and hide the imperfections, this is Madonna we are talking about.
The video itself I think is fantastic, I agree with the critics who are saying it's her best in years, simple but very effective. The director specialises in this kinda video. The video has quite a bit of wire work in but the fact you don't really notice it I think speaks volumes for the editing.

The whole 'she's 56 so shouldn't be doing xyz' kinda bores me (no offence), people have been saying that since 1993 when one headline about the Girlie Show Tour read 'calm down grandma', I think if the most shocking thing she does is suck her thumb for 2 seconds it's kind of a non starter argument for me.

Each to their own though, opinions are what makes the world go round hope you enjoy the album

songanddanceman - I don't disagree about the unfortunate ageism female musical artists face - especially pop musicians. I have no objection to Madonna showing skin, being sexually/socio-politically/ provocative. In fact, I think it's something we should celebrate. But that is not the same thing as seeing a 56 yr old woman suck her thumb in a "sexy baby" routine. I know it's just a couple of seconds of a 4 min video, but it's almost as bad as watching her parade around in a cheerleader's outfit from the last tour/album. I wish she were confident enough to own where she is and say "I can be sexy and powerful at my age" rather than try to mimic a woman half her age. She makes me think of the 65 year old gays one sometimes encounters at The Abbey wearing their cut off muscle shirts with Beyonce sayings and desperately, drunkenly hitting on the twinks looking for a "generous" daddy type.

As for the video itself, it's low rent and it looks very 90s/early 2000s. Would be nice to see something as visually daring as she claims to be.


But, for the record, I really like the song itself.

It's now looking like the songs Queen and Autotune Baby have vanished of the super deluxe version and are replaced with 2 Living for Love remixes. Couldn't care less about Autotune Babt but I thought Queen was superb.
