I'm sure you've all heard of the fundraiser Broadway Backwards or at least of Miscast. Well, my school's QSA and Feminism Club are working on putting together a similar show at the school as an annual tradition. I really want to be a part of it next year but there's so many awesome male solos I like to choose from.

I have the idea of (in future years) getting some girls together to do a group performance of something like Valley High or Gee, Officer Krupke but that might be a little much for the first year so these are the solos I've thought of:

Charades from Grease 2
Streets Of Dublin from A Man Of No Importance
When She Smiles from Lysistrata Jones
Razzle Dazzle from Chicago
Freeze Your Brain from Heathers
Being Alive from Company

Which of these list would be best for me or does anyone have any other ideas for male solos a young woman could sing in a Miscast type show (using the ones I listed as a guide to my range)?

Well Being Alive has been performed by many women. Is there a certain type of song or affect that you're trying to have on the audience?

Because of the queer nature of this kind of show, a love song would be preferable but most of the male solo love songs I found are pretty overdone ("Maria" etc.) which is why there are so many non-love-songs on my list. Because a non-love-song would be acceptable but a love song would be ideal.

How about What is about her from Lippa's The Wild Party, or In Praise of Women from A Little Night Music? Proud Lady from The Baker's Wife would be hilarious.

I think I've decided.
I'm going to try "When Words Fail" from Shrek The Musical
