As I tried to think of waltzes to list, the first one to pop into my mind was, duh, the Thenardier Waltz, from Les Miz. There are few comical waltz numbers in musicals, but this one sure is.

Despite its generally lukewarm reviews, Love Never Dies received decent comments from reviewers for the music, which included several waltzes, most notably the title number.

I like the waltz interlude in POTO that spins off from the Masquerade number.

The Carousel waltz is quite impressive, as well.

I'm tempted to add the Grand March from the opera "Aida," but I'm worried that people might think I'm serious, and brand me a total idiot. Favorite walzes from musicals

"Real Live Girl (Uptempo)" from the revival of "Little Me." The original version featured a slow sotto-voce sand dance version, but the most recent revival did the number as a giddy uptempo comedic waltz instead.

Yes! Shall We Dance is a polka! How stupid of me!

I guess I don't have a favorite waltz from a musical!

Sucks to be me!

CarlosAlberto, don't feel bad about naming "Shall we Dance." It makes sense that a novice dancer would first learn to waltz, since it's relatively easy compared to other dances, including the polka. Also, I'll bet you got thrown off by the King's counting 1-2-3-and, but the "and" in this case, being a full beat, is actually "4." (I always think of "and" as a half beat, and 1-2-3-and SHOULD be a waltz under my definition).

Signed, Audrey, for whom a total inability to dance is one of the reasons that I didn't seek out a Broadway career.
