As a holiday present to all the great people here who have visited my website this year, I just finished publishing a new page on "Memories of Melody Top" about a 1971 production of MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS starring Jane Powell and Ed Evanko. Although she was 42 at the time of this production, Jane Powell received good notices in the role of teenager Esther Smith. The musical did excellent business at Melody Top, and it was revived in 1982 with Andrea McArdle. Fans of movie musicals may remember Erik Rhodes, who played Mr. Smith, from his appearances in THE GAY DIVORCEE and TOP HAT. Click on the link below to read (and to see) much more...

I feel I need to clarify my original posting. Local character actor Clyde Miller, not Ed Evanko, is in the photograph above with Jane Powell. Clyde passed away decades ago, and his wife gifted me with his wonderful scrapbooks a few years ago. She passed away on December 7, 2012. I'm so honored to have those books in my possession. They are filled with amazing photographs of so many Broadway stars (Chita Rivera, John Raitt). Above is a photo of Ed Evanko taken during one of his many Melody Top performances

Ed Evanko was always great at Melody Top. What a voice! The new photos on the Melody Top website are a lot a fun. I especially love that inventive trolley!
