Did they tour the 1998 production? I'm curious about the set-up for the national tour. Would they only choose theaters that can copy the set up of Studio 54 with the tables and such, or would they just put it in regular theaters and lose that element?
^ Yes, they did tour the 1998 production. Some theatres had tables where the orchestra pit usually went. Theatres that can not use tables still usually open the pit up for regular seating.
"There’s nothing quite like the power and the passion of Broadway music. "
Most theatres presented the 1998 revival tour of CABARET in a regular proscenium stage set-up though they fully had on stage the entire scaffolding set (with the 2 spiraling staircases and the raised orchestra/band). It looked as if they literally took the entire Studio 54 set and placed it on stage. It still worked but it definitely lost that intimacy you experience at Studio 54.
Does anyone know if Cabaret is still selling cast-signed calendars in the lobby to raise money for BC/EFA?
"Mostly, I loved the size of these people's emotions. Nobody has emotions this size anymore. Outsized emotions. Operatic emotions. Kushemski and Vanda are like Tristan and Isolde, they're Paolo and Francesca. Nobody's in total thrall like this anymore. Nobody's overcome by passion like this, or goes through this kind of rage." Thomas, Venus in Fur
When it first played Los Angeles, it played the Wilshire Theatre, but the last time I saw a tour there was URINETOWN. I'm assuming either the Ahmanson or somewhere very left field.
"I saw Pavarotti play Rodolfo on stage and with his girth I thought he was about to eat the whole table at the Cafe Momus." - Dollypop
Hey, that's no worse than my reaction when I found out. I was supposed to not react and be very hush hush over the news, except when I was told Cabaret was touring, I found out I have the worst poker face ever. :-p
