How To Succeed AUDITION HELP#1

Any ideas for songs I could audition for How To Succeed with? I'm a female alto and would really love to be cast as Smitty but really any role in this show will do (it's one of my favorites). Anyway, I'm having trouble finding other songs from musicals that sound similar to How To Succeed's sound. HELP and thank you!!

A reason to buy CDs.

I'd say a young Elaine Stritch would have made a swell Smitty, yes? Use her as your template. Find the songs that were written for her or that she did well. ("Zip" is not a good audition song. Not enough variety.)

Go find the cast recordings of Sail Away, Goldilocks and the 1954 On Your Toes. That could give you an idea.

By the time Stritch did Company in 1970 her voice was on the way out, but the young Stritch did a lot with a little.

"Why Do The Wrong People Travel?" from Sail Away could be fun. For God's sake, don't do all the verses. One will do. Unless they ask for more which means you learn them and hold them in reserve.
