Now Janice Dickinson says she was raped by Cosby.

If all this turns out to be true then he is the most notorious serial rapist of our time, right? But I suspect it will be just another Michael Jackson, did he or didn't he, situation until and after Cosby's death.

His polarizing position as a political and academic figure, particularly within the black community, makes him a juicy target.

Reading that article on Dickinson, it says it happened in 1982 when Cosby wanted her to be on THE COSBY SHOW. But that show didn't premiere until 1984...

The way young women are often juicy targets for rapists.

He's an academic figure? Isn't the "Dr." thing honorary?

He should have done more thinking outside of the box. As it were. About his dissertation, I mean.

I find it funny that once these women find the courage to speak up, they are not believed or labeled "Gold Diggers" or some other derogatory names. Is it any wonder why women who are raped, don't come forward immediately?

But there's the thing called... evidence. All you have is one word over another's. Why believe them over Bill Cosby? What makes them more trustworthy? People do lie about awful things for a bit of cash or some spotlight. I don't know the other accusers, but I am aware of Janice and she's a bit of a nut case. Was there even a rumble of these allegations before everyone starting "coming forward" in 2004?

I think instances like this would make women WANT to come forward ASAP. To not let the doubt of time and dissolve of evidence to take place. Is every delayed accusation a lie? No, but there's nothing to corroborate these ones. Updated On: 11/18/14 at 11:13 PM

You're right. Not a scintilla of evidence. Just a LOT of settlements. And stuff.

Many, many women come forward immediately after they've been raped.

She's one of fifteen women who have accused of him rape and/or sexual assault. Fifteen. Damn.

^Right. I mean, one woman coming forward many years later wouldn't have much of a case (not that a single woman is more likely to lie) but with fifteen separate women it's hard to believe Cosby is innocent here.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

That article would seem a bit more credible if they didn't add at the end:

"In the wake of these accusations, a 1969 audio of Cosby making jokes about the drug Spanish Fly have resurfaced"

Like, in case multiple accusers isn't selling you, did you hear this old comedy bit he did 45 years ago?!

Everlast, I have a very dear friend who was raped during a robbery. She opened up to me but was afraid to tell anyone else. She was afraid people would think she had wanted it. There was a lot of shame she felt for... actually orgasming during the rape, although the rapist did not. This rape was 16 years ago. She has, to this day not mentioned it to her husband or family due to her sense of shame and guilt. I think there are many more women out there who have suffered the same and are still afraid to come out.

Since I first saw Cosby do standup at Cal in 1965, I have been a huge fan. He basically broke the color barrier in TV when he co-starred in I Spy. At the time he was loved and respected by everyone. Also at the time it was much more difficult for any young woman to come forward with charges of sexual misconduct. It was much more a "man's world" and women who did make charges like those today were the ones treated like criminals. For any woman hoping for a public career, accusations like those being made today would have be suicide even if true. Lawyers and the press would have destroyed them.

It breaks my heart to believe these accusations but some of these reports and the women themselves seem very credible. If the stories are true, and these women have been living with this pain and feeling of unfairness for decades then it seems reasonable to me that a couple of them might seem a little crazy.

I hate to say this, but I believe these women.

True. There has been talk for years that behind the scenes, he has a nasty reputation. I am/was a fan for years. But I also believe the women. Unfortunately, even if credible evidence is presented, there are so many that will not believe it's true.

There are many people who choose for various reasons to not come forward promptly with a complaint of a sexual assault (and, yes, there are also a great many people who do).

However, I find it very easy to believe that someone who hasn't come forward would choose many years later to do so in order to help corroborate and or support the complaints of others who are then coming forward.

It goes without saying that even in spite of all these accusations, Cosby might be innocent or, on the other hand, he might be serial rapist.

And, no, this would not make him a serial rapist without parallel. Many men who rape do so a great many times.

What's amazing is that these allegations have been around for years and we have hardly heard anything about them. And some of these women have been talking for years. But Cosby has never been asked about it in interviews...until recently on NPR.
This was a non issue until a male comic put it in his stand up routine and it went viral.
Well...it's going to be hard for Cosby to preach about respectability from now on.
Bill Cosby raped me. Why did it take 30 years for people to believe my story?

It is troubling and telling that it took a male comic speaking up about it for the public to take notice when it's been reported for years (which is why the comic was aware of it).

Welcome to my country!

Technically, the male comic didn't even put this out officially. Just happened to mention it in his act and some audience member taped and uploaded it.

Not sure the "people finally listened when a man said it" angle can really be substantiated, since the real shift was the advent of social media. So, to compare something that happened in 2005 before the cultural sway of social media to people quickly turning a YouTube clip into a story nine years later... any correlations seem unfounded.

I mean, MySpace was around then, but people constantly sharing and getting their news in that manner wasn't as prevalent.
