Hi, We are coming to NY in January and I'm trying to pick two plays and one musical. For the plays I've picked Constellations, but am unsure about the second play and wanted the board's ideas--Delicate Balance?? For musical I'm thinking about Gentleman's Guide?(we're seeing traveling version of Beautiful and Kinky Boots here at home)Also should I buy full priced tickets to Constellations or wait and try to get a discount ticket? Thanks for any ideas! Country bumpkin
I would pick A Delicate Balance, if you don't mind a three-hour play. Constellations, from what I read, is only about an hour, so they might balance each other out. ADB is the play I'm most excited about, and if you want to see it, the discount expires tomorrow, so I would go ahead and get tickets. I am also seeing Gentleman's Guide, but by the time of your visit Honeymoon in Vegas will be open, and it is supposed to be a very funny musical comedy, so there is another option.
It really depends on what you are seeking and what you have liked previously.
I'd also second Curious Incident (it is likely going to be huge hit, and since you're in town, why not see the original cast?)
Gentleman's Guide is delightful. I really loved it and can't wait to get to see it again in the spring.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I echo "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" and "A Delicate Balance" is on my must-see list. I think "Gentleman's Guide" is a very good musical bet as well.
If you're here when "You Can't Take It With You" is still playing-GO!! It's a very fun show and the cast-JAMES EARL JONES-is INCREDIBLE!!!
"It's a hugely anticipated show, I think it will be a hot ticket due to the cast so I wouldn't wait."
They said the same thing about Jake's last show at Roundabout, and the hotness never materialized.
The only other factor is that since MTC is a subscriber house, most good seats will be held for them now, and if you wait to make more last-minute plans, they open up the house seats they aren't using, as well as seats for members who switched dates to later performances, etc.
