I'm going to New York in November and eyeing up which shows I'd like to see over there. One of the deciding factors is whether or not I think a show will later come here, does anyone know about the likelihood of these ones? I'm looking at:

Kinky Boots
The Last Ship

I'm definitely doing Hedwig and If/Then regardless, but I don't see either of them coming over anyway.

Try and catch Studio 54's Cabaret if you can. It's absolutely perfect, and is no way coming over the pond. If you can catch it before Michelle Williams leaves (which I believe is November) all the better; her performance is just amazing. Best Sally Bowles I've ever seen.

The Last Ship hadn't opened when I was there (July) so I can't say, but the cast at least looks brilliant. Kinky Boots is likely to be at The Palace in the near future (apparently) so it may be worth seeing something else. Good shout on Hedwig, excellent production of an exceptional show! I'll let you decide on If/Then; I thought it was disappointingly weak, based on how much of a brilliant musical Next to Normal is. But, as with anything, it's worth forming your own opinion of it. Especially a totally new work.

Enjoy your trip!

Is Alan Cumming the Emcee? I fancied it but have seen Cabaret a couple of times and was looking for something brand new. I could be swayed.

Next to Normal is finished now isn't it?

Hedwig is the reason I booked this trip actually. I have to see Michael C Hall in the role. And for If/Then, I'm an Idina fan (but not a crazy one) so its a must see for that reason.

Kinky Boots is already tipped to come over. Too early to tell about The Last Ship - it's a British story with songs by a British songwriter and has a British star (Rachel Tucker) so it's a fair bet they're aiming for it to come to London. But if it bombs at the Box Office and/or gets panned by critics, its fate is uncertain.

I'm heading over early November and have already booked The Last Ship and If/Then (can't stop playing the album - fantastic score). But top of my list is SIDE SHOW (may eventually come over but again much too early to predict how well it will fare. The original flopped on Broadway despite its seriously stunning score - hoping this time round it will get the success it deserves.)

There's also an Off-Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's ALLEGRO, directed by John Doyle, which is also very high on my list (opens early November - tickets go on sale to the public on Oct 2).

Btw - N2N closed quite a while ago.

Always thought off Broadway shows stand a better chance of transferring regardless if they are hit or flop, for the simple reason they cost a lot less to put on.

Broadway very hit and miss if a transfer happens.

I saw Last Ship in its tryout. Not great at all. A very dull dreary show. Weak script, repetitive score, slow, predictable, minimal set, big holes in the story, under developed characters etc I don't expect it to get great reviews despite its cast. I would spend my money elsewhere. It needs a major over haul that wont occur in 2 months post tryout. Cant see it lasting long after the new year. Good cast shame about the show.

I did think Next to Normal had closed, it was just because someone mentioned it earlier.

My friend doesn't know who Michael C Hall is so isn't interested in paying top price for that and will get herself a cheaper seat for Hedwig. She suggested we do the opposite for The Last Ship but I'm loathed to even pay a cheap ticket for that one.

It's a Saturday matinee I'm looking for, I might just decide when I get there what I'm seeing. As long as I get my Hedwig and If/Then tickets sorted now then I can see what I fancy when I'm over.

Go see the revival of On the Town.

Great cast, big ensemble and full orchestra. The sort of production you just won't see in the West End.
