ok peeps, three friends of mine, each from a different Spanish-speaking nation, and I can't seem to agree on the definition of "alcahuetear". I was taught that it means to basically suck up to someone for personal or professional gain. How would you define it in your own words, either in English or Spanish? Gracias de antemano!

It means to suck up for personal/professional gain and it can also mean to enable someone's bad behaviors or habits without consequence.

I believe the literal translation is "to pander" which is similar to what CA was saying.
Thanks again, gang. Most of the Central Americans with whom I interact tend to use the verb "consentir" for pander but I've certainly come across other selections in print media.
