Why is it that some people feel the need to rush to this board, or especially the other theatre message board, the minute something good comes on TDF to make a public announcement? Let people check for themselves please. Alerting a thousand people or more just makes the tickets go really fast. Just one of my pet peeves but I'm probably an old curmudgeon.

I kind of agree. Same thing with the Roundabout access 10 seats.

I don't do TDF but I do get annoyed with the ACCESS 10 stuff. The same goes for the occasional time someone effs up and tells people about the site which shall not be named. People don't understand that it makes it more difficult for those who keep up regularly with that stuff.

Get over it. I will continue to post about TDF. If you don't check it on a regular basis, that's your problem.
It's like people that bitch about rush lines filling up before 10 am because they don't think it's fair that people start lining up at 5 am.
You can do it, you choose not to.

I think it's incredibly helpful and kind of the "towncriers". I've caught many a show I would've otherwise have missed because of the posts.

You don't get it brdway411. We do check it on a regular basis. The problem is alerting those who don't check it on a regular basis so they snag the tickets before those that haven't made their regular check yet.

TDF really should institute a policy like the papering organizations where speaking of the offerings isn't allowed and will result in your membership being revoked.

It would be fine if people waited at least 24 hours to alert everyone so that the tickets wouldn't go unsold, but still allow for regular checkers to get them first. But people alert everyone within minutes. Updated On: 9/16/14 at 04:29 AM

Just curious, what makes someone a "regular" checker? Someone who checks everyday? Every other day? Once a week?

"It would be fine if people waited at least 24 hours to alert everyone so that the tickets wouldn't go unsold, but still allow for regular checkers to get them first. But people alert everyone within minutes."

I don't see how that will necessarily solve any problem. People would still complain that someone alerted others of offerings. If people are really that upset over it, maybe TDF needs to start offering a tiered membership for when you could buy tickets, with people who pay more having access to tickets first with a one-time use access code. But I think that would complicate things in general.

I agree with brdway411. It is similar to when people b*tch about rush lines filling up so early. It sucks, but first come, first serve. Am I more entitled just because I get up early to wait in the rush line, but someone happened to get there earlier? No.

Also, who's to say that the people reading these "towncrier" messages are the ones causing tickets to sell out? How co you know these people aren't regular checkers of offerings as well? Sometimes these announcements are in the middle of another thread, which I doubt thousands of people are monitoring. I'm not a TDF member - doesn't ticket availability depend on the show and its popularity?

This is a Broadway message board. People are going to continue to post this stuff, and I don't blame them. TDF is a not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to make theater accessible for everyone, as I'm sure you know. And everyone here shares that interest, so I don't see the huge deal.

If you are really that hell bent on seeing a show, then pay full price or find another discount. And if you feel like this is a constant issue and you aren't seeing the shows you want, cancel your membership.

Go email someone at TDF if you are that disappointed. Whining on a message board isn't going to change anything. Or again, cancel your membership if you are that dissatisfied to the point where you can't get tickets. Obviously you have been satisfied with the benefits you've received if you're still a member.

I'm sorry you check the site religiously, but people who happen to be at the right place at the right time are just entitled as you to obtain tickets.

Sigh.

And your point? I don't "get" you or something? I don't need to be a member of TDF to understand your pet peeve. You basically don't want people to share their knowledge of ticket availability on TDF so you can be first in line for tickets. Since, you know, you regularly check the site. I'm sure you wouldn't be complaining if you got tickets regardless of some message board thread. If there is something I am missing because I am not a member of TDF, then please let me know.

Yes it makes a HUGE difference that you are not a TDF member. Your opinion doesn't carry much weight, as far as I am concerned. It's a matter of being a member of a club and trying to vote for the rules of that club. You can have an opinion... but it doesn't count.

I'm not voting on any rules. You're choosing to voice your complaint on a public forum, so you're going to get responses from non-members and members. What did you expect? Are you just looking for people who will agree with you?

Regardless, I still don't see how posting TDF announcements is a huge problem if it's a "member's only" club; we "non-members" are not taking away your right to buy tickets. Again, you just want to be first in line. I don't need to be a member to determine that. I'm sorry the message board posts interfere with your scheduled checks.

Again, don't see how not being part of TDF changes anything. I'm not voting on how things should be. I'm commenting based on what the website says.

Now, if someone was asking for reasons to join or not join TDF - that's a different story.

FYI the towncrier posts are helpful. If I'm familiar with the types offerings then it may impact my decision to join in the future.

I am a towncrier and will continue to be

Not everyone can afford $ 300 seats so. I try and help people who can't or will not pay full price. If this offends some too bad

By the way, I am a TDF member

I do check tdf regularly. Several times a day in fact, but sometimes I miss things so I appreciate the people that let us know when new shows pop up and yes, I have been a member of tdf for a very long time.

I check TDF every day at work, but many times shows pop up quickly and are gone by the next time I check. I've seen at least three shows thanks to friends and this board that have alerted me when certain shows are available; I'm very grateful for that.

I check TDF about 3 or 4 times a day. If that's not regular, I don't know what is. But sometimes things go so quickly that I miss them.

Don't read the threads if you don't like it. But complaining because other people show a kindness makes you look like a pretty miserable old croney.

For those who check multiple times an hour. Is there any rhyme or reason as to when new shows are listed?

I agree with Teresa. I do check TDF regularly, but sometimes I'm distracted and I miss stuff. So I do appreciate when people post availability. It does increase the competition, but what can you do?
