A New "View" Starts Today

yes they did. i've rewatched that part a bunch of times already. Whoopi says "she's not famous, she's a newbie". Nicole & Michelle both say something that's mumbled and Whoopi replies with "No, she's not famous. I'm famous!" It was beautiful.

Thanks for the clarification. It all happened so fast and their mic volume is low in the studio. But yes, it was famous, not star. I can't wait to sit and watch it. Raven was quite fidgety during the break.

Reports can say whatever they say.  But to hire a former WHITE HOUSE COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR who managed events that affected our government and indeed, the free world, knowing she, in fact, did have better things to do than memorize the Kardashian family tree et al for 20 years, is pretty stupid, then.  They hired her knowing who she was and what her expertise was.  The fault, then, lies in the production team.  Who's going to fire Bill Wulf for "hiring a person who doesn't know enough about pop culture?"  

Didn't they tout her in the beginning of the season as a REPUBLICAN who could speak to when the conversation at the table got political?  They did.  She did.  She did her job.  I'm not a Republican, but I have simply loved hearing her articulate "her side" and discuss pretty much any political subject that came up, this season.  And she did it without being a "screamer."  That "reason" has to be a ruse; Barbara Walters herself would have been fired, then, if she'd been in Wallace's shoes, good grief.  I'd much rather listen to her and her "lack of pop culture knowledge" than Candace Cameron about...anything.

Yes to all of the above ^. As this board has testified, Wallace scored mightily among progressives, like most of us here.  She brought genuine gravitas to discussions, knowledge-based annotations to generic conversations.  She outclassed most of the others by being ... how else to say it ... smarter.  Stupid decision, dumbed down show. Watching the Raven flounder yesterday, with her usual free-floating hypocrisy (she touts "free speech," unless it's coming from Jenner or someone else she feels steels her thunder; I didn't know she had thunder) only proved how puerile the show has gotten.

I've been watching on Comcast on-demand lately, at night after getting home from work.  I missed yesterday's ep with Kelly Osbourne and wanted to see the entire discussion, but Comcast doesn't have it on on-demand!  Tonight the one for 8/5 (Wed) came up, though.  8/4 is not an option.  I know Comcast owns E!, but Kelly doesn't work there anymore.  Wonder what the deal is; it's an ABC show, after all.

Wallace handled her exit today with more class than the attenuated goodbye deserved.  I've never seen such a protracted firing.  Whoopi made her point, but what lousy television strategy. This woman was being talked about as leaving in late June. We've been talking here that long.  ABC handled this, predictably, terribly. For some time the show has felt like a grab bag group of understudies forced to go on during a blizzard. It's now Whoopi and the B team, hard working, game, but lacking gravitas, other than Wallace and Goldberg.  The View ain't 60 Minutes, or The Tonight Show; but this mess of musical chairs and camera-hogging narcissism wasn't how it started.

 / Auggie, it's Bill Wulf's fault.  It's from the top down.  It all changed when they let Bill Geddie go as EP.  (Or, I was never quite sure whether they let him go or Geddie just left when Barbara left, because he was "her guy.")  Why is no one--on here, or in any other publication talking about the "changes at The View"--taking this guy to task for the musical chairs, I wonder?

so I thought the show was done for the season on Friday only to discover "new" episodes this week. These new episodes were taped in advance over the past 3 weeks. Perez won't appear in any episodes this week.

Poor Rosie Perez. What an awful experience for her.

 

I more or less stopped watching after they announced Wallace was out. I'm not one to say "I'll never watch this show again," but the lineup for next year is awful. In the past, Barbara Walters at least added gravitas to the show when Hasslebeck or Shepherd said something off the wall, but they have nothing like that anymore. I've even come to be annoyed by Whoopi this season. It's sad because the season started with a lot of promise. Had Rosie O'Donnell and Nicolle Wallace stayed this show would have been must see TV for me during the election cycle. I know my not watching the show isn't going to send The View in a spiral, as I'm sure twenty-something gay men aren't their intended demo. 

 

I hope Nicolle lands that full time gig on MSNBC. She's a great television presence, even if her politics aren't my cuppa.

Trust me. Nicolle Wallace didn't take the lousy contributor spot for a reason. She won't be gone for long.

WOW! I'm just amazed that no one at The View gave any kind of notes to Wallace. Basically Wallace never was told directly from ABC that she was fired, she found out via Variety & her agent. That's low & unprofessional. The taped shows this week have been unwatchable, especially those without Wallace & Perez. Whoopi just sits back and let's Raven & Michelle(plus the other guest co-host) go at it. I doubt Whoopi extends her contract after season 19, she was really pissed off about Perez & Wallace getting fired.

The best part is, "When they did finally come and talk to me, I said, “I wish the show the best. But you did lose your happiest employee.”
