A New "View" Starts Today |
Auggie just summed it up basically. Their paycheck combined, including contributors is around 15 million, with an ad revenue of 60-64+ million, I think they're fine.

Oh wow. Who knew. Guess it's here to stay. And I think it is a smart show. I mean, no other daytime talk show really comes to close to discussing hot button issues like they do, I just wish they hadn't opted for "celebrities" so much. It seems really beneath them.
RippedMan, let's have this discussion because I just had it with a TV friend. I feel it's "expected" for them to go so celebrity driven at the table seeing how celebrities are more accessible and "heard" than before.

How about the way they let Santorum spew his propaganda today? Goldberg was oddly mute. It was a bizarre segment, the only rebuttal from The Raven, timid and tentative. The audience did all the work.

But who cares what's expected? I watched today's show and was super disappointed. I mean, basically they all said "We'd like to say something, but we know people will lash out on social media, so we're going to not say anything controversial." Um, so where's the fun in that? Say you're opinion and who cares?
Does Joys disappearance this week have anything to do with the nurse bs thing?
Can't remember where I saw it (one the after shows I think) where Joy said she'd be away all this week for other things, but would be back for Friday's show.

The media made more of Joy's remark, but anyone who saw the infamous (and timid bordering on lame) nursing episode, as I did, will remember that it was Michelle Collins who said far more, started it. I thought the uproar ridiculous, since they were putting down beauty pageants (gee, if "The View" can't put down beauty pageants, who the hell can?), not nursing. I agreed fully, it was ludicrous watching a nurse perform as ... a nurse. The people who voiced outrage didn't even watch the damn show.

This morning we have The Christian View. I was waiting for the Oregon killer's MO to be explicated in religious persecution terms (see Huckabee, Mike), and who's the most likely candidate in daytime talk to school us thus? Shepard. To the flame she flew, putting aside issues of mental illness to make a sweeping generalization about motive. (If this killer's MO is parsed, then by all means, let's look at the one in Sandy Hook -- he hated children? Or Aurora? He hated people eating popcorn?). The show's discussion of the grim events of yesterday was predictably puerile, with tears, faith, and Joe shaking her head.
Great line up of guest this week. Mariska Hargitay, Hugh Jackman, GOP nominees, Tony Goldwyn and more.
I've dvr'd the new view and just can't get interested in it any more. The hosts are all borderline annoying, Whoopi seems detached and she can't talk with the earpiece she wears. If the ratings are up, it's the train wreck syndrome. People are watching and waiting for it to crash. I am totally finished, i'll watch if a broadway show is on, but that's it, I'm out.
I couldn't find anything else to watch today at 11 am. so I tuned in the the View. In the snap of a finger, I changed the channel. On the screen was depraven, all decked out in pink hair and a hipster hat. I almost threw up my breakfast.

Raven is...not the smartest. Like, I get it. I don't know a ton about politics, but I wouldn't open my mouth about it. She was going off about how they shouldn't have asked the Planned Motherhood woman her salary, and Raven said something like "They should ask him his salary" to which her co-anchor asked "Who?" And Raven says "That man, the one asking the questions" to which her co-anchor responded with his correct tittle and position and about how that information is common knowledge, etc.
It's a shame Raven is representing the younger generation because she really comes across as very stupid. She's just not an eloquent person.
Their interview with Danny Pintauro was a pretty awful slut-shamy mess, which he didn't help much, either...

I thought the Pintauro segment was a new low on a show with daily nadirs. The whole thing came off as an exercise in barely disguised shaming. This new smug religious superiority that infuses things, especially post Kim Davis, with two of the 5 hosts (not counting the occasional Sherri, who believes the Oregon murders were hate crimes against her faith) forever Christiansplaining. Raven's tone deafness as she portrays herself as "representing the LGBTQ community..." is especially off-putting. But she's woefully under-educated, and often puts her foot in her mouth as she's ... describing how she just put her foot in her mouth.
Joy is getting her own late night talk show.
Not sure why, after the bomb of her HLN show. She's funny, but usually disinterested and disconnected from her guests (at least this season on The View).
Now people are flipping out because Raven said she would discriminate against someone with a stupid name. She said she wouldn't hire someone named Watermelonia. I hate what the world is coming to.

But why do we care what people on Twitter are saying? People respond so quickly now. But, I think, as rational people, we have to realize that and not take everything as it comes. Like the whole nurse thing. It was a joke. Big deal. Calm down. Move on.

As old southern white trash myself, I can tell y'all that my cousin, Spuddeena, is mighty upset she wasn't included in the Raven names imbroglio. She and her grown daughter Slurpee Mae fired off a well-worded email to ABC.
