What I found so amusing was that, basically, she was out for a couple of weeks with a bad back. Didn't even have surgery. And they welcomed her back like she had risen from the dead. Between the taped promos, the live in-house band, the confetti, etc., it was just so over-the-top. They didn't welcome Barbara back with that much fanfare after her bypass surgery. Over compensating much?

True. It did feel odd. What I miss is the actual debate on current hot topics. I use to turn to the View because I could get a good dose of what's happening in the news that's important. Today I tuned in and learned she had a bad back, but I didn't learn how to prevent a bad back or anything of importance.

This is speculative, but did anyone else think Goldberg was heavily medicated? Part of "conservative treatment" invariably revolves around pain management. But I sensed a fog around Whoopi in the opening moments, and all of her overt dance moves, etc. suggest a woman using pain meds for a safety net. Since she's admitted (many times) drug problems in the past, and I don't mean her medical marijuana for her glaucoma, she should exert great care with oxycodone, which they prescribe like M&Ms for back problems. Lives are shattered by those drugs, and I'm hoping she has a pain management advocate. She looked very puffy and bloated, which fits the profile of someone on pain meds for days.

Looking puffy and bloated are also side effects of steroids, which she referenced several times during the show. Steroids also make you hyper and wired, which she also appeared to be. But they don't make you stupid and inarticulate. My guess is that she'll be taking a lot of time off between now and the end of her contract, and then not renew. Fingers crossed.

Whoopi was on something, that's for sure. She was all over the place.

Whoopi has always been on something. I have been saying it for years. She never denies it for other stuff. But I remember last year on another chat show she was asked if she is high on the View and she said never. But I know she is full of it. I love that the other day she said she gave people vapes for christmas. Now that is a good gift.

Updated On: 1/21/15 at 03:34 PMRosie was not having it today. She barely got a word in during hot topics due to Whoopi's rambling. And the dinosaur topic and Whoopi's throw to commercial…wow.
That is disappointing to hear. I was looking forward to their reactions on last nights state of the union. By the way... I meant VAPE. I corrected my previous statement.

Whoopi was very hyper today. And you could tell Rosie was upset about barely getting one word in durnig hot topics. But even Whoopi was talking over Nicole & their guest co-host today. This isn't like Whoopi, so for now I'll blame the drugs/steroids.
A Chorus Line played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013.

I am a big Whoopi fan but today watching her was torture. She would not let Rosie get a word in edge wise. You could tell she was pissed. When she got up to the dinosaur diagram, that was it for me. Got to give your co-hosts some time. Nicole spoke but only because she was commenting on the presidents speech last night. Whoopi was fuc***g unbearable! Wish we could have seen Rosie's thought bubbles over her head.

Goldberg's clearly got some dangerous interaction of substances impacting every aspect of her appearance and demeanor. Yesterday proved she's floating through this gig, the meds have her in their grip. The show is bizarre right now. Imagine tuning in for the first time, if you'd never seen this daily animal called THE VIEW. You'd say WTF? They bring in these guest hosts, many quite funny stand-up comediennes, and then they sit there unable to get a word in. Back pain is a monster; I've had it, mostly in my youth. It requires discipline and focused, committed exercise, not just meds and the right chair. I feel bad for her, but suspect this show is in for more internecine drama come February (sweeps, yet), when Perez either semi-returns, or a new tale is concocted about her departure. The sense of free-fall permeates, once again.

Updated On: 1/22/15 at 07:11 AM^Jen Kirkman hardly got a word in. I was wondering why she was even there. They could have done the show with just Whoopi, Rosie and Nicole.
Anyway today, Whoopi was (not so) mysteriously absent. And the show was much better. Michelle Williams took her spot.

Again, I found Michelle very refreshing today. Some may find her annoying, but at least she has a PERSONALITY. Some of these guest hosts have been terribly boring.
Also, Colleen (Miranda Sings) did a nice job!

missed the show today, but did Perez make her statement about returning?? I also noticed Whoopi wasn't there today.

They made an announcement that Rosie Perez will be returning Feb 3. The show was really good today, sad to say , without Whoopi. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. My own take is that the producer probably asked Whoopi not to come in until her meds start wearing off. She was speeding yesterday. Put everyone on edge.
Updated On: 1/23/15 at 11:57 PM^When coming back from commercial, the announcer mentioned that Perez is returning on Feb. 3 (day after Fish in the Dark previews begin). Rosie O then commented on it and said something like "don't believe what you read".
There was a reference to Whoopi's performance on Rosie's "Ask Ro" blog. LOTS of veiled View comments from here there. Rosie is NOT happy.

Todays show was awfully good, certainly by the standards of this season. I was very moved by Rosie's handling of the alcoholism documentary guest, which was sensitive and expert. The tone was informative and respectful, and the piece just long enough. It was certainly the kind of segment we haven't seen much of, and one I always feel THE VIEW can occasionally incorporate into its hour. And they didn't let Cantone, whom I always enjoy, dominate.

Stacy London was a great fit during hot topics, but I don't think she even opened her mouth during the Josh Malina interview. It's pretty clear they need to let Whoopi go, hire Cantone permanently, and see what happens when Perez is back in the mix. As much as I love the Broadway talk, Rosie needs to scale it down just a bit. It seems too 'insider' when she brings it up during interviews. Nicole usually mentions something to that effect, and it's clear she isn't comfortable in those moments.
I am not a regular viewer, but I do see clips online every once in a while and I have to say, Nicole Wallace was such a good hire. I may not always agree with her, but she knows how to speak to a broad audience about sometimes complex socio-political wonky issues without talking down to people. She is - by miles - the smartest, most articulate person on that panel. Honestly, she kind of scares me, though. If all Republicans were this effective and likable they'd make even more of their agenda a reality.
Today I noticed that Whoopi was all over the place. She seemed drunk or high with lots of laughing and kind of laying all over the table.
I'm definitely not a Rosie O. fan but she did a damn good job of hosting when Whoopi was out.
