A New "View" Starts Today |
I've pretty much stopped watching since Rosie O left but from the few times I've watched with Raven, she seems so disinterested and unconnected with everything, especially guests.
From what I was told today, they're still working on Michelle and hope to have her announced by August.

And this will do absolutely nothing to improve the quality of the show or the ratings. Who in God's name is making these imbecile decisions??? For the love of everything holy, please cancel this mess of a show!

Joy's been on quite a few times lately. Does she want to return? Does ABC want her back? I'd prefer her over Michelle Collins. I'd prefer Molly Sims over Michelle, too.
I will start watching again if they put Michelle Collins on. Raven is a idiot. I can't stand her.

They could use Joy's gravitas, but I sense that Whoopie rather likes the dynamic as is. She and Nicole have a rapport, and the rest more often than not recede, almost deferentially (Perez just seems moody). I'm rather tired of the center ejector seat. And the audition quality (today's was painful) hampers any chance of the show finding a groove and staying in it. It always feels like a Broadway matinee on a snowy Sunday, when second replacements go on. They pull it off, but everyone is happy to have the cast back the next Tuesday evening. Only here, there's no cast to return.
"Apparently you? "
I stopped watching The View after Rosie O left. I've caught the show a few times since and it's just... boring. I don't think Raven adds anything to the panel, and I still think they should bring in people with a point of view other than "actress." There's no journalist, no reporter... They really had potential to bring in another Hollywood outsider to help support Nicolle. That could shift the focus away from the stupid Hot Topics and make the show a place to go for intelligent debate again-- especially with the election coming up.
I wonder what the hold up is with Michelle's contract?? Or are they just waiting to spread out her announcement a few weeks after Raven's?? I wonder if they'll announce her before their July break??
I haven't been to The View in a couple of weeks (moving...shoot me) but last I heard is they are very interested, she's been offered, and they're trying to work out the details. On top of the fact they want to give her her own "announcement."
maybe at this point, Michelle may not be announced until the new season starts in September. They'll have a short break in mid-July and then the show goes on it's summer hiatus sometime in August for 3/4 weeks.

I found Collins winning this week, but maybe because I agreed with her POV 95% of the time, starting with her irritation with the whole Dolezal debacle. She wears well, and doesn't insert generic remarks into a conversation to score points with other hosts. I'm growing weary watching the camera bounce between Raven and Whoopie, the new booth dictated dynamic, oddly, Raven seeking her approval almost every time she speaks.

Agree. Collins has grown on me. Yesterday she was just effortlessly at the top of her game. The gay Spiderman stuff was especially fun.
And Nicole's Republicanism -- sorry -- certainly took a more extreme position yesterday as she ineptly tried to explain away the early remarks about the Charleston murders being religion/anti-Christianity motivated. Her spin was uncharacteristically spin-y, and Goldberg wasn't buying any of it. Nor does any thinking person, making Wallace's stand all the more bizarre. I suspect she'll appear today to wax on about the smug, grinning Nikki Haley (has anyone ever missed the gravity of an occasion as she did yesterday, beaming as she announced what should be the end of an embarrassment? Humility and shame were called for, not triumph.)
Maybe because it's my type of humor but I love Michelle. I can only assume they'll wait to announce her during the hiatus, that way it'll give them time to redo the opening.
Variety reports Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace may be on the chopping block.

I think they'd be stupid to get rid of Wallace, especially with the election coming up... But if they're going towards celebrity fluff, Wallace can't keep up.
A shame if that's the case with Nicolle. Ever since O'Donnell left, I've found her the most interesting and likable panelist.
I havent talked to anyone behind the scenes at The View recently but Perez I can believe because she has been vocal about The View limiting her travel but Wallace I don't buy. Whoopi is getting more and more say and she's loyal to Nicole.
The "rotating panelist: though I could believe. Raven I'm not sold on but I will say when the four of them and Collins are together, it's good chemistry.

There was cryptic commentary today by Whoopi, who told Raven that she would be there, but that she and Nicole were not so certain (words to that effect). "There's an elephant in the room and I just kicked the elephant." I wonder if Whoopi isn't pleased that they're threatening to dump Wallace. If they do, the show will be dumbed down to the point of inanity. And I never thought I'd say that about a Republican. Wallace and Goldberg make a superb team, ever mindful of the venue but willing to engage in serious disagreement and always emerge respecting of one another. Smiling, usually laughing.
Watching today's show only proved the point. And then there was Raven asking Misty -- the first African American ABT prima ballerina -- what she eats and how she exercises. If a man asked that question he'd be raked over the coals (in fairness, a man wouldn't dare). It was startling, not because the question was offensive; Copeland graciously answered, and in TV terms, the moment was just predictably bland. But because with so little time to honor this young woman, it was puerile. This is historic, Copeland has achieved what no one else has. But we are compelled to ask a dancer how she stays so toned and thin? I thought it was appalling.
Isn't asking that question appropriate for a dancer? Her nutrition and body are her livelihood. In this context, it's completely appropriate.
Yep Tag, and that's what the folks want to know. The questions were written by the production also.

It was clear that it was written by a production team, and the photos were ready to illustrate the point. But you could ask that of, say, a Rockette, who hadn't made history. Maybe I'm nitpicky (understood) or maybe old fashioned (yep). I'd think with such a short segment more could be made of her route to this unique moment, something less generic. I'm clearly in the minority. I was moved by Whoopi's being moved, which made the appearance very satisfying. I'll leave it there.
