A New "View" Starts Today |
I think the show has certainly given her the star quality. I'd like to see her host her own news/talk 'Larry King' style show. NOT on Fox News though.
I mean could she effectively run a political campaign or would being "Wallace, former 'View' co-host..." be too much of an issue?

ABC News can retain her as their lone conservative voice, especially during election season.
Michelle Collins and Raven are co-hosting all next week and Whoopi is scheduled to return as of now.

Aww! This show use to be so good and they'd actually discuss meaty subjects. Now it's basically E! News with celebs. It's so yawn inducing. The reason I loved O'Donnell is that she at least wasn't afraid to talk about a heavy subject. But I just don't respect - sans Nicole - any of their opinions on matters.
Seems like Michelle Collins and Raven are far into negotiations. Very happy for Michelle if it works out.

Totally agree. I gave up on the show again very quickly after Rosie left again because the never-ending stream of guest hosts was driving me nuts. Now that they seem to have settled on Michelle and Raven, I tried tuning in, and it's back to being more pop-driven and pretty unbearable. I just don't care what any of them actually have to say about anything anymore. It's on my TiVo Season Pass but unless it's someone I really want to see, I just delete it. (On a related note, I feel like the guest quality has really gone down too.)

I tuned into the View today because Mario is on. From the few minutes I watched, it struck me that Raven is an idiot.
I'm really surprised they're picking Raven. I know they're pulling her in for the younger audience, but was there really no one else??

When I first saw Michelle Collins, I thought, "who the heck is she? Where did they find her?" But she's quite funny, and her timing is good when she jumps in with jokes in the middle of the conversation. It's occurred to me that they plucked her out of nowhere just like they did with Joy, 19 years ago. (I still wonder where they found her--just scouting stand-up shows?)
As for Raven, sometimes I think she's interesting for the "young" archetype category they're apparently trying to fill, and does provide some valid, probably-badly-needed perspective on Gen-Y/gay/black issues depending on the topic. The first few days she filled in, I was like "oh...no, no way." She was just blurting stuff out. Then she started getting more comfortable with the cadence and rhythm of the group at the table. But, yes...still sometimes she does sound like an idiot. No wonder they're talking with her; she's controversial for this very combination of reasons. (However--heck--she's not as big an idiot as Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and that woman lasted 10 yrs on this show.)
I'm not going to start watching the show again but It's funny, I thought Raven looked quite "old" today.
Well, she may be in sync with the cadence, but the comments heard her make were so ....well, I changed the channel.

Michelle Colllins was a producer / writer on the failed Kathy Griffin talk show. She has also been a comedy writer for many people in the business. I have been saying since her first day when she subbed at the View that they should make her full time. Someone here said they were definitely NOT considering her. Glad to see that is not true. Unfortunately I dislike Raven to the point that I can't see myself watching anything with her. For every right choice they make on that show.. they make 2 bad ones.

Thank you, Dame, I didn't know that. It makes sense that a polished performer like her, who does seem to connect with several guests on a more personal level, would have had to be quietly in the background in the Business, to get a shot.
One thing I don't like that they're doing this season is, they don't open their first Hot Topic segment by *introducing* the guest hosts at the table anymore. Or at least not in as much detail/host chat (what, a couple minutes?) as before. They seem to think that this is covered in the title sequence of the show opener. That's fine, but a) if you join the show after the opening sequence or, like me, b) record it and watch it later in the day and skip crap like that and commercials...WE DON'T KNOW who the guests hosts are, Viewpeople!
Especially for having Michelle on so often this season, you'd think they'd at one point or another have had Whoopi go "and you've been around a bit, you wrote for Kathy Griffin" etc, etc.

I'm still reeling at how much I enjoy Nicole Wallace. Who knew? When the season began, I expected a Hasselbeck component to creep into the hot topic dynamic. Yet she is the antithesis, one of the sharpest minds ever on the show (more like Viera, back in the day), and other than on the subject of Iraq, her measured, pragmatic approach to virtually every topic grounds the discussion. Even when Joy (appropriately) trash-talked Bush last week, Wallace is unruffled and moves on comfortably. It doesn't get personal, for the first time in the history of the show. (Sometimes I think, why the hell did McCain hire her to train Palin, instead of just putting her on the ticket?) As we all watch this loathsome roster of GOP candidates assemble, each more toxic and insulting than the last, one wonders why the party doesn't use Wallace. If she were a spokesperson, they might make inroads. The irony, of course: the right wing of the party probably loathes her.
Completely agree Auggie. I posed the question recently is Nicolle still able to run a campaign or has being on "The View" become an unshakeable distraction for most people? For what it's worth, my Mother raved about her books.
I rarely get to watch The View but was surprised when I tuned in the other day and watched Nicole Wallace. I liked her too.
But she is a completely different person on Morning Joe. I'm not sure which is the real Nicole Wallace.

^That is interesting news. I am in the minority, I can no longer abide either of the hosts on Morning Joe, and after the last election cycle took a break from it, and never switch back, unless some pressing news event of the day invites it.
I'm with you. I despise Morning Joe. But I can't stop myself from hate watching it. I need an intervention.
only watched about 5 minutes today. No Whoopi [or Perez] and Sherri was back to co-host. What a clusterf*ck. Seemed like no control whatsoever.

I watched the first 25 minutes, stunned by Shepard's manic performance. She seemed over-caffeinated or perhaps just overly invested in the perceived stakes in her return. She riffed on everything, interrupting, digressing, always turning things back to her stand-up like take. Her obsession with sharing her son's quotidian crises and her management of same blurs her boundaries and frankly her child's. He's not a toddler, now, and she's seriously exploiting him for impromptu material. She ranted about his special needs schooling, and then made a case that she ignores what teachers expect. It was bizarre. And then, I had to leave home and happily missed the rest.

I was wondering why she was introducing the Fun Home clip. I'm glad Raven was there. Fun Home is so Raven.
For the few seconds I had to watch in order to see the Fun Home clip, I nearly threw up. Raven and Sherri. Combined IQs of -4.
